We are looking at changing or export data that we send to our suppliers from IGES to Step. However, I do not know the difference between Step 203 and Step 214 or if most people can open one over the other. Do anyone know anything on this subject? Thanks in advance.

Not speaking for every person that uses CAD, but based on my own experiences, STEP 203 is probably more common between the two.

The only difference between the two (that I am aware of) is that 203 is a geometry only translation and 214 can include PDM information about the CAD model. How 214 handles that information is beyond my scope of understanding the standards.

The data that I'll be exporting is G.M. part data. This format will go out to die shops for quote and or build. I do not now what PDM means.

Product Data Management....information that might be used in Teamcenter. I'd suggest using just 203.

Most of the tool shops you deal with should be able to handle parasolid information.

I know we send out a lot of GM part data in parasolid format and have no problems. Sometimes it's STEP or IGES.

Might want to see if they have the capabilities, or have the capacity to get the capabilities to handle Parasolid information.
