Hi there,

I am new to ETABS.....I am modeling a braced frame building and I am having issues getting the lateral axial loads dumped into the horizontal beams of the braced frame. Any thoughts on why this is happening? I have been experimenting with modifying the beam properties and have no luck.

Thanks

WillisV is right. To clarify, the beam will see no axial loads if a rigid diaphragm is used. You need to assign a semi-rigid diaphragm.

@WillisV,
Could you please confirm if that is what you intended or if there is an alternate way that you can share?

slick - I generally assign the points to the rigid diaphragm on a point by point basis (usually I just select them all to begin with and to go assign/joints/diaphragms)rather than by assigning the diaphragm to the slab itself. That way I can go to specific points and delete them from the diaphragm if I need to using assign/joists/diaphragms/none.

@ Slickdeals

As WillisV says, release one end from rigid diaphrgm, then you don't need to assign semi rigid diaphragm. I usually follow this method.

other way is offcourse assign semi rigid diaphragm.
