Journal Help: Update Pattern (Drafting)

Is there a way to update a drafting pattern (drawing template) with a journal? I am trying to incorporate this into an existing journal, but it is not recordable and if there is a command for it I can't find it.

Format->Pattern->Update Patterns->All in Assembly.

It is not a waste of time when you have tens of thousands of drawings set up this way.
