Hi,

Good Day!!!!

I have to weld SA335 Gr.P22 to P22 Material to weld this whether I can choose the below mentioned electrode and filler wire-

GTAW - ER80S-B3L
SMAW - E8018-B3L

In most of the welding hand books and manufacturer recommendation electrode E9018-B3 & ER90S-B3 is selected to weld SA335 Gr.P22.

Can anyone recommend me the correct Welding electrode and filler wire and why?

Thanks

It depends on the service. Use "B3L" fillers in hydrogen service environments. Use "B3" for high temperature (> 900F) steam service environments.

Because the weld metal composition should match the base metal composition, when possible or when service requires another option for filler metal selection. Also, design codes may require specific weld electrodes or combinations thereof.

Make your decision.

P22 0.05–0.15 0.30–0.60 0.025 0.025 0.50 max. 1.90–2.60 0.87–1.13

Why would you ever want to weld P22 to P22 with a E8018-B1 electrde?

Weldstand,

no I 'm not going to weld wit electrode E8018 - B1 - H4.
because the question is where are you going weld with
I choose for E9018 - B3.

but you can also use E8018 -B3 and other electrode.

Hi,
@denlow60

Most of the electrode manufacturer's recommend us to use E9018-B3 to weld SA335 Gr.P22 Pipe Material.

I have a question on your reply, Is it electrode E8018-B3 or B3L, Because as per ASME Sec.II Part-C E8018-B3 doesn't exist only E8018-B3L is mentioned.

Thanks everyone for your technical inputs.
