Hi,

Here is my assembly

download.aspx

PRO/E seems to be able to simulate the flexible chain assy.

Do I have to use deformable component to get the result ? and how ?

Find herewith the test assy

I need to constraint the

holes and the slot

Thanks in advance for your help

No, deformable component is not design for this purpose.
The best exemple of use of this feature is a spring.

Your components are rigid, it's only a matter of assembly constraints.
Look for the "motion" application, you should be able to achieve what you want.

Using the standard assembly license.
When everything is well constrain, then, your chain link will move.
But, I don't know how to force them to be aligned on the ground or how to give them a "real" behavior.

I get it to update quite nicely, it doesn't behave like a true cable chain since the real thing cannot bend in the "wrong direction" but apart from that it updates.

Anyhow
I removed the constraints in the "sub ass" between the start-end of the chain. ( 2 constraints, parallel and distance deleted.)
In the "assy" i selected the upper end of the chain , RMB - Override position.
Then constrained the upper end to the plate.

After moving the "plaque", i need to select one of the links in the middle of the chain RMB - Move : drag it into a better position.

I have a video showing the complete operation, but it's 7.6 Mb, so i'm not sure if i should upload.
leave a reply if you want the video.

Toost,

I think the file size limit for engineering.com (the attachment link below) is 20 MB. Your file should upload fine.

Here’s the video of the cable chain.
It’s captured using Jing by Techsmith.com ( freeware) it is in Shockwave Flash format. ( .swf)
Save the file to disc, it's compressed in 7zip. extract and open it with Internet Explorer. ( Do not use a “video player”, it will not work.)

Good.
Beside that, do you like the "assembly constraints" ergonomy ?
Do you find easy to locate / repair / modify a constraint ?

Hi Stéphane,

I like assembly constraints ergonomy. Even I remember the easy way to find them with mating conditions in NX4, the following process is a good solution to explore the assembly:

And the result

Or you can also use the new constraint navigator
