2024 - Point load effects on top plates

To Align or not to align, Wall studs and Floor Framing in Multi-Story Construction, Steimle, Structure Magazine, Feb 2024.

While this is light on actual math (and pretty light on the discussion in terms of what's practical and what's unlikely to work), this is one of the relative few articles on this subject. There's an earlier article on Woodworks by the same author without a lot of the fancy graphics. The origin of this can be misleading and it's not been adapted for, say, larger truss spacing or larger truss spans that could be equally overstressed in single story construction.

Alignment of Bearing Wall Studs and Trusses/Joists in Multi-Story Wood Construction: Structural Design Considerations, Steimle, Woodworks web site.
