Eng-Tips has introduced a file upload service via Engineering.com's free hosting service.
Files can be attached at Step 3 when posting a reply, or at Step 4 when starting a new thread.

If you don't have access to a web server, a quick browser search for free image hosting will list plenty of sites. I use www.imageshack.us.

Other popular sites are;

Once your image is uploaded, the host site will give the URL of the image for use in these fora. See the following for which URL type to use.

If you have access to a web server, upload your image to it and then place the URL of that image into a post.

You can post image formats directly into a post using:
[ignore]
YourImage.gif
[/ignore]

eg:
bigsmiley0fr.gif

I believe most bitmap image formats can be subsituted for the "gif" shown.

Please remember, not everyone has a High Speed connection, so use the Preview Post feature & open the image before you Submit Post to ensure the download time is not excessive & that the image dimensions are suitable for the thread.

Note: Images larger than 400 pixels wide can cause the threads page to distort. Please try to keep images posted less than 400 pixels wide.

The following format allows images to be viewed directly in the forum thread.

You can also post image formats as the URL only using:
http://www.YourServer.com/YourFolder/YourImage.gif

eg:
Using this format (without the "" TGML) allows users to view the image only when they want to ... not everytime they open the thread, plus you don't have to worry so much about picture size, because the image is opened in an image viewer (or browser) rather than within the forum thread.
