    Truss design

Thanks everyone. I'm actually in talks with a company that specializes in domes and trusses...quite a large scale. This is an entirely new area for me and while I will be relying primarily on the guidance of the experienced engineers, I'd like to gather as much information as possible on my...

    Truss design

My career seems to be taking me away from my roots and into new areas (for me). In preparation, does anyone have any suggestions as to any resources and references for truss design? Many thanks.

    Blast resistant structure

Looking at the possibility of doing some design work for a blast resistant room within a larger structure. Based on my readings from FM Global and NFPA, I will have three hardened walls (reinf conc) and the exterior wall will be blow off panels. My question is, is there any source of guidance...

    Triangular plates

Thanks again. We finally located one of the copies that was floating around the office. For anyone looking for this info: Max stress = (0.262qa^2)/t^2 Max defl = (0.038qa^4)/Et^3 q=uniform load a=dist from the right angle to the center of the hypot. t=plate thickness

    Triangular plates

Thank you both. I am assuming that none of Roark's tables are published anywhere online? I have several of the tables for rectangular plates, but nothing for triangular. I plan on getting the 7th edition, but I'm hoping to wrap this up before FedEx makes the delivery.

    Triangular plates

I need to evaluate uniformly loaded, simply supported plates in the shape of an isosceles triangle. I don't have a copy of Roark, but would that book cover it? Can anyone offer any guidance on this (other than FEA)? Thanks

Fork truck loading for "road plate"

about 5' x 5' I'd like to use diamond plate or something textured for slip resistance. And grating is out, as it does little to protect the switch from snow and ice. I'm having trouble finding any sort of textured plate thicker than 1/2"

Fork truck loading for "road plate"

Hello all. Hoping someone could give me a guideline for the proper loadings to use for the permanent installation of a road plate. I need to cover a transfer switch for a set of R/R tracks and grating is out because of the heavy snow and ice in the area....we are looking to protect and cover...

    Support for ductwork

Thanks BigInch. I believe it was in one of your posts regarding a pipe rack design that I read of a typical factor of 0.3 being used as a ballpark for any lateral forces a pipe may generate. I am assuming this is 0.3 x (downward force). The reason I am asking is that if I consider a lateral...

    Support for ductwork

I am a beginning civil/structural engineer (in training) and have been given the task of designing supports for some large ductwork. The ductwork will be supported by a pier foundation and a coulumn extending a few feet above grade to the duct itself. My question is how do I calculate the...
