Thanks Edstainless. Check this out, I just found a solenoid valve that uses FNPT fittings with the stainless collar like you mentioned.

@ FACS and EdStainless,
Thanks for the continued support. Here are some images of the collar insert concept. Please let me know if this is the intent. https://files.engineering.com/getfile.aspx?folder=138d6236-a254-4d7d-9430-230cdb9c8d1d&file=COLLAR_INSERT_1a.JPG
Hi all,
Thanks very much for all the replies. Nylon would be my first choice, however the PVDF material is 1 of 2 compatible thermoplastics listed as approved for this specific application. I would attempt to mold the female NPT threads, but since we are threading in a metal MNPT sensor, I am...
Hi all,
I apologize in advance if this is not the correct thread category. I have an application for a coolant manifold (50/50 ethylene glycol/DI water) that will experience max temp of around 70C and max pressure around 14psi and am in need to create this out of a thermoplastic material. To...
Hi Guys,
I cannot seem to find the solution to my issue when performing basic searches... When using ANSYS Workbench Version 14.0 for a Static Structural problem, the solver crashes if the project has been saved to my computer. I have absolutely no issues with the solver if the project has not...
Thanks for all of the fast replies! Yes, the loads are symmetric, so I have halved them, which results in the 38kip per side. The hand calculation was a simple bending stress = Mc/I. My moment is created by the 38kip load at a 33" distance. The I is 80.8 in^4 for the 9x3x1/2" rectangular tube...
Sorry, I should have explained better. Only half of the actual structure is modeled - I simplified the ANSYS model for quicker results, that is the reason for the frictionless support on the ends of the rectangular tubes - from what I understand, this is how you treat something symmetrical...
All,
I am having a hard time believing the ANSYS results that I am getting for a simple structure. Long story short, I am calculating around 11ksi bending stress for the attached structure, but when I run the ANSYS model with the same load, I am seeing stress levels that are almost double...
Hi Strainstress, thank you for the feedback. I have not manufactured anything as of yet - I did however have the updated/curved gusset design reviewed with positive feedback and am going to move forward with this design. I think overall that the chief was wanting me to exercise some due...
Sorry about all of the issues with attachments... here are some additional images that show the results. http://files.engineering.com/getfile.aspx?folder=1dd30b64-534e-4cb3-b186-cd00a8dc9e7a&file=updated.jpg...
All,
Here are some images of the updated design that utilizes curved gussets. I was not succesful connecting the weld beads together in NX, and this is where the stress concentrations showed up. In reality however, this will not be the case and I am thinking that the concentration will be...
Thanks for all of the replies guys. I ended up having success with an odd curvature shaped gusset and changing the 4x4 square members to 6x2 rectangular members with a thinner wall section. I will post some pictures once I clean up my weld models and re-run the analysis.
