    Seal Welds and Intermittent Welds

thanks this is helpful. the hss will be sealed. fortunately, its not in a highly corrosive environment. just something that has happened over a long period of time.

    Seal Welds and Intermittent Welds

    yes, hence the seal weld

    Seal Welds and Intermittent Welds

I am reinforcing a column in a corrosive environment using AISC. The column is a PEMB built-up column with 3/8" flanges that i am welding an HSS member to along its length. I would like to limit distortion of the flanges using an intermittent flare bevel weld and then follow up with a seal weld...

Basic Structural System - equipment pad

this is a dumb question, for sure, but does anyone know how i might describe the basic structural system on my design criteria section for a project that just consists of an equipment pad in a high seismic zone? Should i list it as "N/A, Ground Supported Slab"?

Effective Wind Area - Stud Wall with Parapet

I have a stud wall that bypasses the roof line to form a parapet. Ive been using an effective wind area for the wall based on the overall length 21.1' to get 21.1'2/3 and use this value to get both my wind loads for the wall portion and the parapet portion. Im second guessing myself and...

    Vibration Mitigation

Thanks but that contradicts AISC DG 11

    Vibration Mitigation

Thanks, but we know, based on DG 11, that reinforcement that is not properly attached to the floor framing, such as through welding or jacking of posts, is largely ineffective when it comes to vibration mitigation. I am familiar with walking excitation and sensitive equipment. Isolation is not...

    Vibration Mitigation

Yes, and to engage them so that the reinforcing is compatible with the model. ...Yes, agreed. Which is what I've alluded to in my original post.

    Vibration Mitigation

Yes, agreed. Although Im most concerned with the beams that are on the right-hand side, parallel to the deck.

    Vibration Mitigation

    It's for walking excitation

    Vibration Mitigation

Thanks, i mustve missed that portion. I know it discusses the columns. We've discussed it with the specialty engineer. They wanted the beams tight to the deck with no special requirements. They were not familiar with jacking the posts, which made me question their direction.

    Vibration Mitigation

I've been tasked with creating design drawings from a vibration mitigation study performed by a specialty engineer on a composite framed steel floor with slab on metal deck for sensitive equipment. The specialty engineer used finite element modelling to determine the repairs which consist of...

How do California structural PE's refer to themselves on company resumes/RFP's?

Deker, thanks for your insight, however, you have assumed we are a structural only firm. Alt0, this is what im looking for. Thanks!

How do California structural PE's refer to themselves on company resumes/RFP's?

thanks im not interested in modifying state titles. for the california pe's, how do you communicate that you are focused on designing structures on your resumes.

How do California structural PE's refer to themselves on company resumes/RFP's?

thank you for your insight. however, i am not interested in your response. for the rest, if someone can help me indicate that my Civil Professional Engineer has experience in designing structures in California and not roadways at the top of a team resume, i would be grateful.
