GDT Dimensioning method for 2 datum holes that break thru a wall

Hello Everyone, Thank you for the quick and multiple responses. To follow up with Semiond's point. We are having issues with break through already with the part and are experiencing the issues you describe which is why there was a proposal to make this a slot. Originally the part had a slot...

GDT Dimensioning method for 2 datum holes that break thru a wall

Hello, I was wondering if the dimensioning method I show in the attached drawing is acceptable. Originally, this part had two holes, but it was suggested that the holes break through due to issues with the holes being so close to the wall of the part. There are 2 mating pins that pass through...

Correct Specification for stainless steel passivation

Hello, I am trying to create a standard note for passivation. We have been having parts made overseas (China) and I want to provide them with a more clear understanding of what we want. The parts are 410 CRES heat treated to HRC 38-42. Currently the drawing notes states "FINISH: PASSIVATE"...

Save body from multibody part error

I was hoping to keep this linked back to the original I believe save bodies allows that option. These work arounds will work but I am wondering why the save body or split body tools are not working. Is it a bug or the geometry that I am trying to split? Thank You for your help, Rich

Save body from multibody part error

Yes I can do that, but in order to create the .sldprt file for the smaller part (part in red) I would have to copy the entire multibody part (and all of its features) then do a body delete to the larger part. By doing this it would make the file size large for the smaller part becasue it will...

Save body from multibody part error

Hello, I for the life of me cannot figure this one out. I have created a multibody part (2 bodies) for injection molding and am trying to save off 1 of the bodies using either the split body or the save bodies command. I get an error when I try this stating "The trimmed pieces cannot be...

    Flattening a curved surface

JMirisola & CMB, How are you able to get the part to flatten? When I try and flatten the flange attached to the curved section on the D I get an error stating that Solidworks cannot flatten a toridal bend. Thanks,

    Flattening a curved surface

JMirsola, I have featureworks so if you can send the file along it would be much appriciated. I think I am with you on what you are describing, but am still stuck on the part as described above. I belive the part would need to be bent twice. Once along the curved side of the flat D and again...

    Flattening a curved surface

Hey Guys, Ok so here is what I have so far. I created the flat d portion and an angled flange off of the rounded side of the d. I cannot make the final bend for the small curled pieces that come of of the large curve. I have attached a picture for reference. The part in the grey is the...

    Flattening a curved surface

CorBlimeyLimey, Thanks for getting back to me so quick. Unfortunatly my company has not yet made the upgrade to 09 so I am not able to open your file. Is there anyway you can upload the file in 08 or attach a picture to further illustrate what you are recommending?

    Flattening a curved surface

Hello, 1st time poster long time reader. I was wondering if there was a way to flatten a curved surface such as the one attached with this posting. I am trying to create a pretty acurate flat pattern of this part so it can be exported as a .dxf to be laser cut. I have tried the indent...
