Include lateral mass in the mass source option in Etabs

actually i have just tried it bass the base shear isn't affected; i guess if it was about forces, they would have written forces but not masses; i am not able to understand this translational mass what do they mean by it and an example of it.

Include lateral mass in the mass source option in Etabs

Hi, In the mass source in the Etabs software, there is the option in the mass source option to include lateral mass. In their documentation, CSI indicates that "assigned translational mass in the global X and Y and assigned rotational mass moment of inertias about the global Z axis are...

overlapping critical perimeter of columns as per EC2

"The concrete punching shear capacity vRd (without shear reinforcement) will be determined from 2d*vrdc/a". This is what i am looking for. Can you tell me your reference please? It is somewhere in the EC or in the books you mentioned ? Many thanks again :))

overlapping critical perimeter of columns as per EC2

Thanks again Hturkak. But i want to make sure that i dont need any punching shear reinforcement; i verified that along the column perimeter, the stresses are less than vrd, max. The thing is that the Eurocode should give additional capacity for sections located between the column perimeter and...

overlapping critical perimeter of columns as per EC2

Thanks for your reply . Shouldn’t the eurocode specify a higher shear capacity when checking at less than 2d ?

overlapping critical perimeter of columns as per EC2

Hi, I am designing a conic silo which has a foundation as per the attached. the dotted blue circles are the columns supporting the silo. The brown circles are the piles under the raft, having a thickness of 1200mm. The design is conducted as per Eurocode 2. When checking punching shear, and...

    Question about a micropile

Oldest guy I wasn't clear in my original post. When I asked about the section capacity I meant the structural capacity and not the Geotechnical capacity.

Thank you oldest guy. Any examples you can share ?

    Question about a micropile

Hello this is my first time I use a micropile. It has a diameter of 250mm. It will contain reinforcement consisting of 4 high deformed bars with some spiral reinforcement. My question is: 1. Is it mandatory to use grout and not concrete? Is it because I cant go with the tremie up to the bottom...

Deformation compatibility for column according to ASCE7-10

Hello, this is my first project in a Seismic Design Category D. I am checking the code requirements regarding the deformation compatibility (ASCE7-10 - section 12.12.5). I have 2 interrogations where I would like to have your opinions: 1. Whenever I obtain the maximum story drift, should I...

Ss and S1 for 100 years life expectancy

Noted. Thank you. Does the ASCE provide spectral parameters Ss and S1 based on different exceedance probabilities ? in other words, is there a document stating that for 475 years, the following parameters Ss and S1 apply and for 2475, other parameter values are applicable.

Ss and S1 for 100 years life expectancy

475 corresponds to 10% exceedance in 50 years and 2475 2% in 50 years. How do you decide which one to use ?? I think eurocode is based on 475 return period and asce7-05 on 2475. However back to the original question how do u take into account a higher design life span in terms of seismcity?

Ss and S1 for 100 years life expectancy

Hi Any ideas how to extract the spectral parameters Ss and S1 for a structure having 100 years design working life ? It seems that Ss and S1 provided in the asce7-10 are given for 50 years with 2% exceedance probability. Thanks for the help
