  • I have a pipeline with a DP of 900 psi that will be Hydrotested to 1125 psi

in this pipeline there are 6 ball valves to drain/ vent the pipeline. Those valves (rating # 600) and accordingly the max operating pressure for those valves are 1480 psi.

can I hydrotest the pipeline with valves in closed position, and without installing blind flanges because it is difficult to remove during the hydrotest?

    Hi:
Why are you removing the vent valves . Please blind them with appropriate blind flange on outlet side of these valves.

Well I'd say it would not be necessary to test it at 1480psi because I'm pretty sure those valves have been tested at factories before shipped to site.
1125psi is suffice but this is only applicable at one end of the pipe (valve inlet end). You have to test the pipe at the outlet end too.

But you have to consider the valve leak rate, which may affect your result.
