    U2-(g), appendix 46

What make you think that the method of U-2(g)(1)(-c) is not valid? Note that if Div.2 Part 5 is used, all the failure modes shall be considered, see 46-4(c).

    U2-(g), appendix 46

My understaing is that because you do not have a Division 2 vessel, but a Division 1 vessel. For a Division 1 vessel you do not care about 4.1.1.2.1/2 and when no design rules are available you go to U-2(g). This means: When design rules are neither given in Division 1, nor in Part 4 of...

    Electric Boiler Question

According to ASME Interpretation Number I-81-01: An electric boiler where heat is applied to the boiler pressure vessel externally by electric heating elements, induction coils, or other electrical means is considered to be a fired steam boiler. An electric boiler where the medium (water) is...

    U2-(g), appendix 46

Hi, Keep in mind that you do not have a Division 2 vessel, but a Division 1 vessel which needs to be desgin by the design rules of Division 2 (because of the change in Part UHX). That doesn't mean your vessel is a Div. 2 vessel. If there are no design rules in Div. 2 than U-2(g) applies and...

Haven't the rules for heat exchangers design moved to VIII-2 already?

Membrane or Membrane+Bending when assessing local failure protection per ASME VIII-2

Whenever I encountered a situation where (σ₁ + σ₂ + σ₃) was larger than 4S, I applied the procedure described in 5.3.3.

Membrane or Membrane+Bending when assessing local failure protection per ASME VIII-2

Most commercial FEA software includes an option to plot the Triaxial Stress (σ₁ + σ₂ + σ₃), and I am confident that ANSYS offers this capability as well. Note that if the total principal stress summation meets the allowable limit (4S), linearization is not required.

    PED 2014/68/EU - Assemblies

@AKuep and @XL83NL , thanks again, A pressure tests have already been carried out for all individual pressure items, does a leak test of all assembly connection is permissible? Can you please point me to a paragraph in the Directive which allow this? How exactly this test is preformed? Thanks,

    PED 2014/68/EU - Assemblies

Thank you. Where is the value of 1.05 came from? Annex I. 7.4 does not iclude this value, and the calculated value should be against the Ps value, not the yield point.

    PED 2014/68/EU - Assemblies

@AKuep and @XL83NL, thank you very much for your detailed answers. I do have some more questions, 1. Does a hydrostatic test per ANNEX I, 7.4 is required? in what pressure? 2. What does "functional whole" mean? XL83NL, The PID is for illustration purpose only, and it isn't the actual PID...

    PED 2014/68/EU - Assemblies

Hello all, I would like to consult regarding the definition of an "assembly" as per PED 2014/68/EU. The system I have contains the following pressure equipment: * Steam Generator (MAWP=5 Barg) - Category III * Pressure Vessel (MAWP=3 Barg) - Category III * Piping System with DN<32, piping is...
