Tech Explanation on Diesel Engine in AC Generator Set

Hello All, I am still wrestling with this enquiry and was hoping for some Tech Calculations to verify what we are thinking ( validate our maths ). ● Load = 400 kW Electric Motor Driven Pump ( Water Pump ) with VFD ● Client has advised Max FLC = 450 Amps per Phase ( I assume this is @ 400 kW ) ●...

Tech Explanation on Diesel Engine in AC Generator Set

    Yeah good point. Load will be a 400 kW Electric Motor with VFD Driving a Water Pump. 690V Motor - Full Load = 450 Amps per Phase. ● Case 1 - Power Draw 347 kW ( 1018 rpm ) ● Case 2 - Power Draw 370 kW ( 1025 rpm ) ● Case - Power Draw 395 kW ( 1034 rpm )

Tech Explanation on Diesel Engine in AC Generator Set

Hello All, I was hoping to get a Technical Explanation on the Power ( kW Input ) requirements of an Industrial Diesel Engine 1500rpm in a 4 Pole AC Generator Set. Is there any impact on kW Rating ( or another way to ask kW Efficiency ) of a Diesel Engine when the Output Supply and AC Alternator...

Failure of ISO PumpEnd ( Diesel Driven )

Hello All, We have seen a couple of Broken Pump Shafts ( Stainless Steel ) on Diesel Driven ISO PumpEnds. These are coupled via a 'Close Coupling' arrangement ( ie. Direct Pre-Load Bearing Adaptor with Muff Coupling between Pump & Engine ). I attach a couple of Photos to help show the Failures...

Exciter Stator Failure - Cause ???

Hello All, Just trying to get an idea of a cause of failure on an AC Generator ( 125 kVA ). See photo - this is the Exciter Stator. The AVR had also blown on this machine. The Generator Set is a Diesel Driven Unit Powering an Electric Pump Motor 55 kW with VSD / Soft Starter. I welcome any...

Diesel Driven Water Pump with Vacuum Priming System - Centrifugal Clutch Engagement Speed

Hello All, We are Building a Diesel Engine Driven Water Pump System that includes a Vscuum Priming Kit. The Unit needs Remote Start/Stop & Telemetry. We have fitted a Centrifugal Clutch to disengage Water Pump for first 5 minutes so Water Pump can be Primed before engagement. The Priming is...

    Sheared Flywheel Bolts on Generator

It is a bit of a strange looking Coupling arrangement- this came from supplier and it seems they use a Rotor with Keyed Shaft (possibly from the 2 Bearing Bare Shaft version) and provide SAE Discs for Direct Couple to Engine Flywheel/Housing.

    Sheared Flywheel Bolts on Generator

Thanks Keith, I would be interested in a more detailed explanation of what occurs when Synchronisation goes wrong. Torque is no doubt a key ingredient in the failure but can it be explained how the Process unfolds leading up to the sheared bolts.
