    Another bolt connection question?

Hi, Guys, I have One more question on bolted connections, please see drawings in attached document. My question is: 1. In practice, there is always certain length of bolt that extrude out beyond the nut, is there any code requirement that specifies the minimum bolt extrude length? 2. If in a...

What is the standard way to splice rebar to form a longer rebar?

In a tension concrete member, when the rebar is not long enough and need splice them to make a longer rebar, I have seen some contractor weld lap splice along overlap portion, some contractor use wire to tie the lap splice at overlap portion, some just let it overlap a development length and...

Bolt Shear Strength in Pretension Condition

I think the higher shear result mostly comes from the friction.

Bolt Shear Strength in Pretension Condition

Thanks Guys for your precious information. That means bolt shear capacity will not be reduced by pretension in the bolt. That matches a test result I remember way back when we preloaded the bolt and get a higher shear capacity (even 15% higher than the AISC code value) than let the bolt loose.

Bolt Shear Strength in Pretension Condition

We have a sharp argument in our office regarding a bearing type bolt connection with a pretension value smaller than the Minimum Bolt Pretension specified in AISC-13th, Table J3.1. One of our engineer says, with any value of pretension which is over 20% of corresponding available tensile...

Consider it as MWFRS or C&C?

I am recently participating in a job to estimate a building roof wind damage (gable roof). The roof is caved in at windward and ballooned out in the leeward and the roof rafters and joists are buckled. The estimation report will directly affect the determination of which side insurance...

lateral to vertical pressure ratio for concrete slurry-which value to?

Hello guys, Could anybody please tell me which lateral to vertical pressure ratio for concrete slurry do you use to calculate the lateral pressure during pouring the concrete slurry? If you take it as water, it will be 1.0, if you simulate it as earth pressure at rest, it will be 0.5. So which...
