it is critical from a geometrical point of view. The machine this particular gear goes on uses the gear as a timing device. It doesnt actually spin a full 360 degrees, but rather back and forth. Low speeds and low directional change. I would say it is more important that we limit our backlash...
I have a gear that I want to figure out the information on. I do not have a cmm with reverse engineering capabilities.
Can I use traditional gear inspection methods (dimension over pins, span, #teeth, etc...) to figure out the gear data of this particular gear?
Is there a sequence of steps...
I have two hole patterns of two holes (4 holes total) called out separately because of their difference in size. It is critical that the 4 holes travel together as a pattern.
How do I properly emphasize that the two different hole callouts must travel together? I feel like this is some sort of...
Does anybody have experience inspecting threaded hole positions with a vision system? True position of a threaded hole is based on pitch cylinder, which cannot be inspected with vision.
Also, is there a good method of checking threaded sizes for high production parts with tapped holes?
I have a part that has opposing holes (nominally co-linear axis). holes are same size, separated by a large void. Pins get pressed into these holes and allow the part to pivot and I am only concerned about a projected tolerance zone. This is very similar to the example 7-44 and 7-45 given in...
pmarc,
This is exactly what I am after. Is this acceptable to do as per the standard? There is nothing in the standard from what I can see that shows this.
I have a large, broad machined face that I want to control. There is one portion of the surface that I am truly concerned with, and I plan to use Datum targets to hold flatness in a specific area. How can I control the flatness of the rest of the surface?
Ex: Datum target area flatness is .002...
I have a part with a large surface, but I do not want to whole surface to be the datum, but just a "Ring" shape, which consists of an outer diameter and inner diameter. Can this be done with datum targets?
Are there any standards or rule of thumbs out there for Section View/Detail View labeling (A, B, C...) for multiple sheet drawings?
Example: Mechanical Drawing has a 5 sheet drawing.
Sheet 1 has section view AA, does the Section View on sheet 2 need to be BB, or anything different than AA...
I posted this thread in the QC and Inspection forum, but thought I would try here as well...
Is there a standard for locations of probe hits for drawings? Any ANSI spec on this?
Trying to describe a probing strategy on a print for a CMM. Such as measuring a 3-D profile.

Is there a standard for locations of probe hits for drawings? Any ANSI spec on this?
Trying to describe a probing strategy on a print for a CMM. Such as measuring a 3-D profile.
The manufacturing process includes a CMM in the cell and I want to control the location of the probe hits.
