    NDT percentage clarrification

Thank you for the comments. I've got a good idea of what is required now. Many Thanks guys,

    NDT percentage clarrification

Hi guys, A real quick one... If the level of NDT of a weld is defined as 20% does this mean that 1 in 5 of welded joints needs to be tested or that 20% of every joint needs to be tested? For example, If there are 10 butt welds that require 20% MPI, does this imply that 2 out of 10 of the...

Weld Burn Through - "Rule of Thumb"

Thank you for the reply. Do you have a section of reference for AWS D1.1?

Weld Burn Through - "Rule of Thumb"

All, Seen there are other threads on this subject but they are now closed. A colleague of mine stands by his rule of thumb that the maximum weld leg length can not be greater than the minimum thickness of the two pieces being welded together. I can see the rule holding for thin gauge metal and...

Digital Vernier Interface with a PC

Yes good point MintJulep. Thanks for the information CoryPad. Some interesting bits of kit there.

Digital Vernier Interface with a PC

MintJulep, the torque will be measure with a torque wrench, the elongation is to be measured with calipers. Redpicker, please read my post as "digital calipers with a PC interface", disregard the vernier aspect. I often refer to vernier gauges as calipers. Thanks,

Digital Vernier Interface with a PC

Hello All, I need to record the continuous elongation of a bolt as torque is applied. I was planning on using an electronic digital vernier and connecting it to the pc similar to the below: http://digital-caliper.co.uk/product_info.php?products_id=395 Does anyone have any experience of this...

BS EN 13480-3 equivalent for ASME B31.3 - Stress Intensification factors

RobyengIT - Thanks for the documents, I've reviewed them both and I think the example calculation will be a useful reference in future calculations. XL83NL - Thank you for the direction in regards to stress factors. I will review and post on my progress. Thanks again

BS EN 13480-3 equivalent for ASME B31.3 - Stress Intensification factors

Hello All, Does anyone have experience with BS EN 13480 Metallic Industrial Piping? I'm trying to find the equivalent section to ASME B31.3 Appendix D that deals with stress intensification factors for elbows and pipe bends. Also, I can't seem to find any section in BS EN 13480-3 or BS EN...

    H-Beam Slotted Through Joint Capacity

Two fantastic responses already, thanks guys. I have attached a very quick cad sketch of the joint in question. The gold cross members are those I'm investigating. KootK - Yes groove weld where the two beam flanges meet as the two beams are required to finish flush with each other. The...

    H-Beam Slotted Through Joint Capacity

Hello All, Has anyone come across slotted H-beam through joints as a means of simplifying skid frames and base frames manufacture for steel structures? https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=5Kv2xAsP8YI I am thinking of a skid base frame with two full length H beams (203x203x52) requiring equally...

Non-circular Pressure Vessel - Partition Plate - Full Penetration weld size

Duwe6 perhaps you can help me further - If the joint was partial penetration only, would it still come under UW-13.2(e)?

Non-circular Pressure Vessel - Partition Plate - Full Penetration weld size

Hi everyone, I need some help locating the relevant weld size for a full-penetration weld on a partition plate (stay) for a non-circular pressure vessel (Air cooled Heat exchanger header box). I assume it should be minimum weld size (Throat) to be < Min plate thickness, however I need a...
