RISA Model - Beam not design for lateral-torsional buckling

Thanks all for your response. @JoshPlumSE , yes thats true. I calculated LP and it shows 8.5ft, which is larger than Lb hence not check for LTB. But I wish if RISA could give a reason why LTB is not applicable for better clarity to the user. @DaveAtkins @driftLimiter - Thanks for your...

RISA Model - Beam not design for lateral-torsional buckling

Hi, I have designed a simple structure in RISA 3D and have used the software to design column (vertical) elements. On checking the detailed design report for columns in RISA, the flexural design in major axis does not accounts for lateral torsional buckling. It says "Limit state of lateral -...

Design of L or J shaped concrete anchor

Bolt is 8" away from edge. I dont know a reason for 30 degrees, but this is an existing anchor installed at site. Does Hilti Profis design the anchors with bent or inclined shaft? I thought it only designs for vertical shafts.

Design of L or J shaped concrete anchor

Has anyone designed the pre-installed (L-shape/J-shape or) or post-installed (adhesive) concrete anchors with the bent shaft? Like the one shown in the image. Does anyone have the design calculation for this type of anchor that they can share...

    Reinforcing unreinforced column

@a_urbs - Can you elaborate little bit on post-tensioned collar approach? Is it the steel jacketing post-tensioned around the column?

    Reinforcing unreinforced column

Thanks for the response. @lexpatrie - The equipment cant be taken off from the columns. With equipment on columns, it is exerting the vertical loads on it. The cracks and spalls in top 1ft of column, I believe, is the result unreinforced concrete not being able to take the bearing loads...

    Reinforcing unreinforced column

The concrete column, 32"x 32", approx 8ft tall is supporting mechanical equipment (condenser). The are four columns such as this, supporting equipment. Each of these columns are cracked at top 1ft, some of them has 4" deep (horizontally)concrete chunks spalled off without exposing any rebars...

Pouring cement grout instead concrete in containtment slab

Thanks @AskTooMuch, I will check with Five Star or Sika if they can recommend any product. I think I will be able to manage with the embedment length of rebar epoxied into the concrete. Thanks @TLHS. I haven't used epoxy grout before so wasn't sure if than can be an alternative or not. But you...

Pouring cement grout instead concrete in containtment slab

@TLHS - The tanks sits on this slab (no pedestals for support), exerting bearing load on it. I don't expect any bending or other load than bearing. @AskTooMuch - The operation team wants to use epoxy grout instead of concrete for repair. I am trying to find out the reasons to justify that the...

Pouring cement grout instead concrete in containtment slab

Sorry for not giving the complete information. The intent to replace concrete with alternate material is to avoid long wait setting time of concrete.

Pouring cement grout instead concrete in containtment slab

I have a 2ft thick concrete containment slab for a lube oil tank. The slab has layer of rebars at top and bottom surface. The slab was exposed to the fire. The concrete from slab will be tested to determine if the concrete is deteriorated or not. My guess is that the portion of the concrete is...

Seal the concrete containment slab after coring

Thanks for the response @HTURKAK. Would the grout bond with the concrete around to form a water-tight seal?

Seal the concrete containment slab after coring

I have a 2ft thick containment slab, and we are coring the concrete samples from that slab upto its full thickness i.e. 2ft. How can I seal the cored slab to restore to its function of containment?

Concrete anchor design with bent shaft

Failure of steel channel at Travel Screen

@dvd The channel is under the sprocket as shown in the attached image. The damage is at the middle of channel where the sprocket bearing sits. The sprocket gear that rotates the sprocket is attached to the side, as shown in section BB. The additional details of travel screen are shown here -...
