    Extracting Surfaces

Anyone knows how to extract the surfaces of a solid body, please help.

Relationship of fatigue and grain direction

Is there any relationship of fatigue crack growth to material grain direction? In the case of heat treatment / work hardening, how would it affect the material properties in terms of fatigue?

    Deformation of a sphere

Hi, I have a scenario here whereby I have a sphere of dia .1875 being compressed by two metal plates (Parallel to each other and tangent to the circular surface). How do I calculate the amount of deformation on the sphere for a given force, say about 10lbs. (Assuming that the plates are...

    Bearing Interference - Preload formula

Hi Tmoose, There's two reasons I need to avoid slippage. 1. Minimize wear on surfaces. 2. I need the bearings to lift a retainer (.1 lb max) up at constant speed. I have precise machining on the bores and rods (.00001" bilateral), so that's not an issue. There would not be any grooves as the...

    Bearing Interference - Preload formula

I'm involved in a project whereby I'm trying to determine appropriate ball bearings for my design. Here's how it works: The bearings are spaced evenly in a radial manner and are "squeezed" between a tube ID and a rod OD. The bearings preload establish good contact and prevent slipping while the...

    Soildworks vs SolidEdge

Timelord, you are lucky. I was using UG for a long time till I converted to Pro/E and was asked to pick it as I went along. UG -> Pro/E is complete pain as UG emphasize a lot of 2-D and 3-D curves (not so parametric) rather than sketches. And it employs a lot of primitives. SWX -> Pro/E is not...

    Linking parametric dimensions

I managed to do it another way by adding notes and putting in the link to the model, for instance... keying in "Hole Depth@Sketch4@@Default@TBD Isolator.SLDPRT" It reflects the dimensions in the drawing but not the tolerances. Still working a way around.

    Linking parametric dimensions

Apparently it doesn't allow it. The only way I thought of is to create a note and linking it to a created dimension. Then delete the source. However this does not work for the tolerances as it's taking values from <dim> in the source. I have been working with UG and Pro/E in the past and they...

    Linking parametric dimensions

Well, I want 2 driven dimensions displayed in an annotation that shows the diameter w/tol and depth w/tol. I know that insert model items will work but it shows two dimensions completely. In another scenario, I have a rectangular cutout with a depth callout but I can't display the dimensions...

    Linking parametric dimensions

Do you mean typing in the values for the depth? How about the tolerances? I can't do another set of bilateral tolerances for the depth.

    Linking parametric dimensions

In this way the dimensions will not be updated / driven by the model updates. In addition, I would like to make my bilateral tolerances in a top bottom display. Can this be done?

    Linking parametric dimensions

I have two dimensions, one describing the hole diameter (with tolerances) and the other describing it's depth (with tolerances). How do I display them in the drawing?
