Thank you all for the input!
@EZBuilding.. my client inherited it this way (of course). There is no documentation or permit for this new function. I took on the role to permit it after the fact as part of the 40yr inspection report.
At this point and with all your great input. I plan to...
Thanks for the insight. I have never prescribed carbon fiber as a strengthening application. Sounds interesting.
I was thinking more along the lines of adding shear plates along the span or at least at the ends.
Hi All,
I have an building safety inspection project for a building in South Florida. We are required to do the 40yr and every 10yr structural inspection.
So this building in question is a single story CBS concrete block structure. The original plans are from 1973 and barely legible. But I...
Thank you FacEngrPE
I agree. I can make a general observation of what is safe and not safe in regards to electrical. But I do not know what the nuances are, if any.
I am reaching out to see if there are any electrical inspections trainings that anyone would suggest to increase my competency in...
Hi All,
I am a PE & a GC in South Florida, as you know with the recent Surfside collapse Miami Dade and Broward Counties are enforcing 40 and 50yr inspections urgently. We are getting many requests to do the inspections but I am not too familiar with electrical inspections. I have the checklist...
Thank you MedicineEng
I have not heard back from the client nor did he actually pull a permit. He started doing his work on his own.
That does make sense. Assuming the sensors are accurate and switches work correctly.
Thank you EnergyProfessional
I believe they plan to keep it open (as long as it is bearable). I was thinking of even separating the zones.
My worry about having the system running while doors are open will be the condensation and potential of mold growth. In my opinion it should be off but the...
Hi All,
I have a commercial restaurant client that wants to open up their interior space with folding windows. The restaurant faces the ocean in FL so they want to have the outdoor feel for the customers. But currently the space is interior and has several AC vents to this space as it is the...
Depends on ultimate scope and type of work. But if you have the floorplan showing the floor joists already then it does not hurt to add it into the plan to avoid confusion. Anything that you can do to make it easier/clear for the contractor is a good thing in my opinion.
But if you are...
Thanks everyone. I finally signed up.
I also went with Identrust, was the only one that did not have such a complicated website and clearly stated their fees. I too signed up for the 3 yr plan with the USB key, came to about $340 total.
No, not that one. But it is the one that is snug, it has no structural connection though. The furring strips are tight against this wall.
Should there be some sort of strapping/connection to the trusses bottom chord? I hesitate to connect them so the existing condition can remain. But they...
Thanks all for the input.
Conclusion to this is to "keep" a load bearing wall. I put it in quotations because we will just spec out a column beam approach at that location and call it a day. Works out architecturally too.
One less grey hair to worry about.. lol
Thank you phamENG, I took a look at that post.
dik, see attached for a picture of the setup. Those panels going from truss to truss are offset.
So taking a note from that thread that phamENG suggested, could we say that the T&G sheathing acts as a diaphragm...
