    Heathrow power outage

In the 1930's, a fluid called Askarel (PCB) was introduced as an alternate insulating fluid, as it had a higher flashpoint. It was outlawed in many countries in the late 1970's. That didn't stop cross contamination of oil processing equipment. To this day NON PCB stickers are required on all...

Voltage given from the secondary of the capacitive voltage transformer

Our utility treats a CVT like an inductive transformer as well. All of our VT/CVT have a secondary disconnect box at the base of the device. Older styles have fuses. Newer styles have fuses in series with a disconnect switch. Either way, as part of procedure, we inspect the box and verify...

Leybold 3~ Time Over/undervoltage relay coordination

Not much information here. Leybold appears to make vacuum pumps. I'd imagine the undervoltage is to protect the motor once running, with a small time delay. I'd image the overvoltage would block closing the breaker to protect the motor. Who knows really without more information.

    Testing of Medium-Voltage Circuit Breakers

There's a video on the page attached that goes through testing https://www.eaton.com/us/en-us/services/high-power-test-labs/franksville-high-power-lab.html

GCB in the 15,000 Amp range

    Siemens makes (made?) a 15kV 8000A VCB. ABB/Hitachi make SF6 GCB 10000A maybe?

    Nuisance tripping in Sepam T40

LV side Sepam (soft contact). Soft contact as in NOT regular mechanical relay contacts and more like a transistor? I'd look into that. DC Ground is inadvertent grounding of the control circuit, momentary or otherwise

    Nuisance tripping in Sepam T40

So T40 is basically a feeder type protection, yes? No differential (87T)? Your suspicion of the cable from LV relay to HV relay may be a problem. On the LV side, are there mechanical contacts or some kind of hybrid transistor / mechanical? I've seen instances where he hybrid contacts feeding...

Transformer Winding Temperature Indication CT Ratios

So I was checking out a new large power transformer and I'm wondering in the day and age of Electronic temperature monitors replacing the traditional analog gauges and heaters, why do the CT ratios seem like they are specified for older equipment. The Electronic temperature monitors can accept...

Kingsine or other brand relay test kits

I think a big part of the purchasing decision has to consider an in country repair department or at least a sales office in country that can handle the logistics. Do they offer loaner sets when the kit goes down? I suppose it depends on who writes the check, but go for the best model with...

    TiDL protection relays

I believe the GE brick does the same https://www.gevernova.com/grid-solutions/multilin/catalog/hardfiber.htm

CS Energy Ltd Callide C4. The coverup continues after RTS at vast cost with no insurance

After watching the video from a previous post, it seems that if the Arc Flash relay had not tripped it's AC breaker, the event would not have occurred. I've installed & commissioned probably 20 Arc Flash protection systems on MV switchgear and it's sensing is via fiber optic loops in the bus...

Cargill FR3 natural ester fluid field transformer filling.

"How complicated or any special equipment required to carry out field services." OP hasn't mentioned the voltage rating or size of the unit, which dictates what type of equipment is used. From the https://www.cargill.com/doc/1432076502266/r2040-retrofill-guide-power-tds.pdf page 4/5 the...

    138kv Cable in Tray

I worked in a GIS station that took in 138kV UG cables. The cables came in in the basement and were on cable trays while they made their way to the GIS, about 100' or so before they went up on risers to the gear. This is a permanent configuration.

Can a PLC provide custom overcurrent protection settings of a circuit breaker with trip unit?

Imagine the PLC protection, then a fault occurs, then PLC fails to trip. Someone or something very expensive gets hurt. Investigation finds faulty PLC as root cause.

    Electrical Contact Grease Question

The correct answer is always consult the manufacturer for latest maintenance recommendations. Other less correct answers might be GE Red / Mobile 28 or Anderol 757 for moving parts in the mechanism. Never WD-40. Auto parts store lubricants should be avoided. The attached paper, discusses HV...
