revisiting anti-squat geometry on my mr2

This is an better image of a stock alltrac celica rear. http://www.gtfours.co.uk/pics/suspension/205/006.jpg Is the anti-squat built into the "trailing arm" angle?

revisiting anti-squat geometry on my mr2

Ok, So it is essentially acting as an A-arm on a diagonal. I was under the assumption that because the forward arm was basically parallel longitudinally with the car, that it was acting more like a trailing arm. Now what if the two arms were divorced from each other? That's how the awd Celicas...

revisiting anti-squat geometry on my mr2

I'm gonna start with a basic question for you guys to see if it meshes with what I'm thinking. I understand that in a mcpherson strut arrangement antis are generally determined by tilting the lower a arm and that the upper strut mount is essentially considered the virtual upper a arm based...

    IRS drag racing part 2

This is where we left off. http://www.eng-tips.com/viewthread.cfm?qid=315042 This project has been on a break for a while and I'm starting to revisit it. A little refresher. I'm trying to improve the geometry of a 2nd generation mr2 factory style IRS suspension for drag racing purposes. There...

ideas for improving IRS for drag racing

Tmoose, 60 ft times were previously 1.61. I should have no problem seeing 1.4 or better with the next setup. This is the kind of power bands we are seeing with turbo 4 cylinders now days. I expect 400whp by 4500-5000 rpms with my motor. I can launch with full spool at well over that rpm if need...

ideas for improving IRS for drag racing

the trailing link itself will bend whether it's in s bushing or mounted solidly in a bracket at the lateral arm. When the car launches the trailing link will go to a pro squat angle (front down/rear up) and the wheel will drive forward so hard on that angle that there has been cases of breaking...

my entire suspension will be made up entirely of solid heims and chromoly tubes. Bushings need not apply

ideas for improving IRS for drag racing

The last motor (557 whp 2.0 Liter 8500 rpms 26 psi, 25 mpg) went for 6 years seeing drag and auto cross events and was occasionally driven to work. There are Honda K series 4 cylinders that are street driven making as much as 300 whp naturally aspirated. You guys need to get with the times. LOL...

ideas for improving IRS for drag racing

previous best was 10.85 @ 132mph with 557whp. That was on a motor with a poor power band and a chassis setup for auto crossing. The setup for this season will be all out drag oriented and the new motor has 10% more displacement with a billet wheel, ball bearing, twin scroll, smaller wheel size...

ideas for improving IRS for drag racing

Yeah Pat, Toe out under decell is a major concern of mine. Probably the most major. The biggest hurdle for mr2 drag racing has been keeping the car stable down track, especially when shifting. Rear weight biased, short wheel base cars don't like to have the rear unsettle, especially with any...

ideas for improving IRS for drag racing

Thanks for the help guys. I'm working with a fabricator (Hux Racing) to get this stuff made. This was my original plan. http://i785.photobucket.com/albums/yy138/fobangn/scan0001.jpg I thought that if I made a ball joint spacer, I could get the more aggressive trailing arm angle but, like a...

ideas for improving IRS for drag racing

If I were to make the trailing arm level with the car at ride height, would I not lose anti-squat characteritics? A typical drag car with a more conventional straight beam axle can achieve as much as %200 anti-squat forcing the tires into the track and raising the rear of the car. I realize that...

ideas for improving IRS for drag racing

I thought about something like that, but it's not really an option in my situation without chopping stuff up and drag racing rules frown upon that in the classes I would have to compete in if I decided to do so. Right now I'm just looking for better, not necessarily best. I was thinking that...

ideas for improving IRS for drag racing

Hi guys, I'm new here. I'm having some problems figuring our what is ideal for drag racing from a not ideal setup. I'm in the process of building a '93 Toyota MR2 in an attempt to set a new drag ET world record. I'm trying to figure out how to reduce the amount of toe/camber changes without...
