does ASME provide design-only certification of VIII-1 to a company?

@hugo50ml, i think that's fraud. i‘ve examined UW-26(d) you mentioned, which intends that the welder doesn't necessarily be employed by the manufacturer directly. such practice, saving labor cost, isn't rare per my experience. such practice still require the manufacturer's ability on...

does ASME provide design-only certification of VIII-1 to a company?

@hugo50ml, the company applying for ASME STAMP have to prove its ability on manufacturing. According to my experience, a sample vessel shall be fabricated during joint review by ASME. the manufacturer holding the stamp may subcontract some parts, which is allowed by ASME code. please refer to...

@hugo50ml, i think it's not available, just my opinion.

Membrane or Membrane+Bending when assessing local failure protection per ASME VIII-2

thanks IdanPV same worries with me, thus i believe selection of "Membrane+Bending" as a default in ANSYS would lead to a conservative result, because secondary stress may be included the stress。 i agree elastic-plastic is better, i just not quite get used to it presently. Thanks for your reply.

Membrane or Membrane+Bending when assessing local failure protection per ASME VIII-2

@IdanPV, what is the reason? worries on the the categorization of stresses which requiring significant knowledge and judgment?

Membrane or Membrane+Bending when assessing local failure protection per ASME VIII-2

Thanks IdanPV, i know that method you mentioned, my question is how to retrieve linearized primary stress in case that (S1 + S₂ + S₃) is larger than 4*S。 i guess maybe Table 5.6 " exmples of stress classfication" in VIII-2 shall be also used to identify if the stress is primary according to...

Membrane or Membrane+Bending when assessing local failure protection per ASME VIII-2

hi All, i have a question regarding local failure criteria in the example of ASME PTB-3, shown as below: "5.3.2 Example E5.3.2 – Elastic Analysis In addition to demonstrating protection against plastic collapse, the following elastic analysis criterion shall be satisfied for each point in the...

@TGS4, IdanPV, i am clear, thank you for your reply.

under what situation, the creep analysis is mandatory?

sorry for the late response, i need more in-depth learning on creeping for further discussion. thanks for all your reply.

does ASME provide design-only certification of VIII-1 to a company?

hi all, the salesman of my company checks with me if design-only certification is available under ASME VIIII-1. many years ago, i accidentally heard that ASME would provide design-only certification to a company? what is the current status? is design-only certification for ASME VIII-1 available...

under what situation, the creep analysis is mandatory?

hi, all, a pressure vessel is designed to ASME BPVC VIII-1 or VIII-2, under what situation shall the creep analysis be mandatory? At temperatures in the range where creep and stress rupture strength govern the allowable stress? if yes, i am confused why creep analysis is required while...

    An ASME interpretation regarding UW-11(a)(5)(-b)

@Maslov, thanks, i am clear now.

    An ASME interpretation regarding UW-11(a)(5)(-b)

i am reading Interpretation "BPV VIII-1-19-11", and encounter a problem: Background: A vessel has a 14" NPS nozzle which is 15mm (0.59") thick with a Category C butt weld between the nozzle neck and a flange. The nominal thickness at the welded joint does not exceed the thickness in UW-11(a)(2)...

the reason of the change with UW-11(a)(4)?

i accidentally find one change of UW-11(a)(4) in ASME VIII-1 since 2019 edition. UW-11(a)(4) of 2017 edition: (4) all butt welds in nozzles, communicating chambers, etc., with the nominal thickness at the welded joint that exceeds the thickness in (2) above or attached to the shell or heads of...
