With CSA S16, is there a maximum bolt spacing for fastener design? I could not find a reference to a maximum spacing. This is for an A325 bolted connection.

Thanks

Hi dik, there is no maximum bolt spacing in S16. Just minimum spacing and min/max edge distance. See section 22.3.

If you're looking for a Canadian reference that does specify a maximum bolt spacing, take a look at S6-19 10.18.4.5 through 10.18.4.7. This covers maximum bolt spacing to prevent moisture from getting into the joints as well as requirements for maximum spacing of bolts in built-up compression members.

Thanks... the connection I was looking at had BAR 3/8 with bolt spacing = 9"... I'll take a gander at S6.

Just mentioning it, but it may be considered in some other code(s), there's inter-bolt (or inter-rivet) buckling?
