    Rail crack

Hi all, Thanks for the valuable input. Just to clarify, if the web/head is the crack initiation point, do you mean the surface defect is the cause of the rail break? I would assume the crack initation point could also come from inclusion? I a bit confused who is the cuplrit to the rail break...

    Rail crack

Hi experts, Is me again. Could you please advise whether the arrow pointed to the rail is crack origin or final fracture? Since the rail is consistently under compression, i would have expected it to be final fracture instead of crack origin. If it is crack origin, not sure why it appears...

I believe several combination may cause the rail crack. Welding is definitely one of them. But i am surprised that it can last for 7 years. Wow. Amazing.

    Rail crack

Hi Experts, Would like to seek your opinion on the rail crack (see attached). Please advise. 1. Is that consider a beach mark around the circular patch? To me, it seem more like an oxidation rather than beach mark. 2. Consider thermite welding was performed to this rail 7 years ago, how will...

Determine the actual burnt of metal (Internally or Externally)

Hi All, This is IRJ. Attached some of the photos. Wondering what could be some of the causes that create the burnt IRJ. Is there any possibilities that would prevent from IRJ burnt? for example, fire resistance coating? Thanks...

Determine the actual burnt of metal (Internally or Externally)

Hi Compositepro, it is electric rail. The burnt occurred between 2 materials. The center material is a weaker materials (Insulated Rail Joint). Just wondering which one of the two will burn first. Hi IRstuff, will check with the respective engineer if there is any coating coated. Just...

Determine the actual burnt of metal (Internally or Externally)

Hi All Experts, Just a question, I am dealing with a burnt metal which is used in the track railway. Recently, there was a burnt on the metal, probably due to arc flash or arc blast. My questions are as follow: 1) Based on visual inspection, would we able to determine whether the burnt...
