To add to this, on further investigation, I find that the delay is essentially in bringing up the Simulation Navigator. In particular, the following entry in the log file takes forever to get written:
Scenario Navigator Column Headers...

You can use the Durability Wizard to do a basic durability solve on NASTRAN SOL 101 results. The Wizard can be accessed within Advanced Simulation from Tools --> Durability Wizard.
