Dear georgeverghese,
Thanks for the suggestion.
Currently, there is no problem however, sometimes i am facing some running conditions which i cannot explain. for example, in our facility (oil producer) we have a centrifugal compressor for natural gas injection (4 stages producing 350 BARG)...
I am looking for a good book explaining the Centrifugal Compressors (Theory, calculations, operation, maintenance, etc).
i am not a designer however, in many occasions i need to calculate some important parameters such as shaft power, polytropic efficiency, discharge pressure,..
I need advice...
In our water injection facility; BB5 multistage pump is installed; every time only NDE mechanical seal fails. DE is okay. any specific reason?
this pump is equipped with 53B mechanical seal piping.
I am expecting some reverse pressure from pump discharge while pump is not running (may be the...
Dear bimr,
Thanks for your reply.
For diaphragm condition. visually it is good. May be some aging is causing the problem.
What about the diaphragm clamping area? I would say, it may cause the problem also. what do you think?
Thanks
Reciprocating pump LEWA. diaphragm is sandwich type, means two PTFE diaphragms in between an intermediate fluid.
problem: Diaphragm rapture pressure transmitter alarm!
dismantled the pump, diaphragm found in good condition.
what could be the other reasons.
what is function of the intermediate...
Our GE Frame 5 gas turbine; the starting system consists of fixed speed induction motor with hydraulic torque converter (twin disc make/ single stage).
How the machine is accelerating from firing speed (20%) to self sustain speed(60%)?? The starter motor is fixed speed and the torque converter...
Thanks Hoxton for your reply.
herewith I have attached the drawing for better understanding.
In some manuals it is mentioned; the purpose of the quill shaft drive is to absorb the axial movement of both units. still this is not clear for me.
also cannot figure out how the quill shaft is...
In Frame-5 Gas Turbine, Load gearbox is equipped with a single quill shaft drive. it is a FLENDRGRAFF gearbox.
I need to understand, what is the advantage of quill shaft power transmission? why cannot we use a normal parallel gear unit?
also could not under stand how the quill shaft is connected...
I hope some expertise to explain me about the difference between the axial and vertical split case multi stage pumps.
what is the design differences? applications, pressure ranges..
which design should have a balance drum/disk? and which one is equipped with leak off sleeve?
what is the...
In gas compressor; what is the specific heat ration? How could it affect the compressor performance?
in compressor's data sheet; I can see Cp/Cv varying with the temperature. is this the only parameter which could affect it?
thanks
Dear LittleInch,
Thanks for your reply.
Yes. I can do this. however still I need to understand; during normal conditions (seals are ok), should we see any air coming from these openings?
Please note that, this unit still under commissioning! it is recently installed.
Regards
We have oil free package Ingersoll Rand Sierra SH300 and observed that 1st stage airend and 2nd stage airend seal ports are blowing heavily hot air. Is this a normal phenomenon? please see the attached photo.
I understand, this ports(openings) will leak only whenever there is a seal failure...

Dear Johnny Pellin,
Currently I am working on some project to run two dissimilar pumps inn parallel,
I have seen your recommendations about the pump shut off head and I fully agree with that.
in my case the two pumps are not sharing a common suction. each pump has its own suction vessel however...
What are the constrains running dissimilar pumps in parallel?
Why should they have the same suction and same discharge pressure? what if one pump has different friction losses at the suction or discharge side from the other one?
Thanks
