Remove Casing / Disassembly Option API 610

I don't know how to close this thread, but it seems the mystery has been solved by looking at API 610 12th edition. There is a paragraph that clarifies the "remove casing after test" inspection option by emphasizing that on certain pump types like BB3 (split-case, multistage) and BB5 (double...

Remove Casing / Disassembly Option API 610

On an API 610 datasheet, the option for "Remove casing after test" is shown with the option for non-witness/witness. What does that mean exactly? Is it referring to removal of the casing cover for visual inspection / complete removal of water in the pump casing? Would this be an option to avoid...

Why would a mag drive be impractical for non corrosive applications?

Keep in mind there is a difference between magnetic drive pumps and canned motor pumps. The magnetic drive pumps have a coupling mechanism that is connected to a regular motor, while the canned motor pump contains the windings within the secondary containment shell and drives the pump shaft...

    General Service Pumps

Hello bimr, Would that mean the definition is independent of process conditions?

    General Service Pumps

Hello, What is considered a "general service" pump in downstream refining? I would have thought any utilities, water services, etc. are considered general service, but the terminology is also mentioned in API 610 when referring to inspection levels. Thanks.

API 610th/ VS1/ Soleplate Installation into metallic structure

Vibration issues aren't always resolved with the most rigid structures. It is more about getting away from the overall resonance at typical operating conditions. An modal analysis would certainly be needed including modeling the anchor bolts as the whole system is subject to mechanical resonance.

    Longest Vertical Can (VS6) Pump

I have an application with roughly 1250 hp, 900 rpm, and 30' of bowls. I know seawater lift pumps can be in excess of 50 meters and this is a very generic question, but how long can a pump be before it becomes a major rotordynamic concern?

Very Low NPSHA + Negative NPSHA

There is no such thing as negative NPSH. Don't ever say that in front of other engineers. NPSH is representative of a value greater than 0.

Hello everybody, Is there a way to

No, some of the part numbers are related to SAP.

    Experience with Segmented MultiStage Pumps

The mechanical seal tolerances are very sensitive to the nozzle loads. I agree with Artisi, but the reality is that piping is often restricted by space, and therefore, the final piping design leaves some residual forces acting on the pump. It is likely the nozzle loads are affecting the...

    Plan53B external leak

What is the pressure reading for the accumulator? The gas needs to maintain a pressure buffer of at least 20 psi.g above the barrier fluid pressure.

    API 610 Bearing Temperature Rise

Thank you, electricpete! That answers the question.

    API 610 Bearing Temperature Rise

I am not understanding... I would add 40 degrees C to another 40 degrees C? The conversion is 176 degrees F. How is that relevant to the 40 K (70 R) temperature rise? 40 K does not equal 70 R in differential temperature. How are those values reconciled? Am I missing something?

Vapour Pressure in Equilibrium cancelling Vapor Pressure in Tank?

Another option is a vertical can pump, which will allow you to accommodate more potential pressure head. This is also another common option for gas feed pumps with fluid in a critical state.

    Pump selection criteria

If you cannot change the pipe design due to cost restrictions, use the exact same pump for a 100% spare. There is no need for the larger pump size. However, I would change the pipe design and you have excessive pipe friction losses. Something is wrong in either the calculation or design.

    API 610 Bearing Temperature Rise

Hello, I am designing a bearing calculation sheet and noticed a discrepancy in API 610 (10th Edition) paragraph 6.10.2.4 in regards to the acceptance criteria during testing. According to the paragraph, "b) for ring-oiled or splash systems, an oil-sump temperature below 82 degrees C (180...

Speed Torque (Starting) Characteristics for High Nss Pump - Acceleration Head Effects

The formula would be some type of polynomial with several terms. There are statistical methods to fit a polynomial curve onto actual data points with a high R^2 value. However, the mathematical model would be very specific to the application. On an hourly basis, the bypass loop is a much...

    API 547 Vertical Motor

Does anyone know why API 547 does not cover vertical motors? Most suppliers provide "API 547" vertical motors, but I assume they are only designed for the intent of the specification.
