Thanks for the responses
I will see if they can seal the end of conduit after the cable is pulled through. I will ask my electrical friends about insulation in the conduit.
Frost heave is my main concern as this is a raft foundation with the building raise up on pedestals. Some sites have...
Hi All,
I have a number of sites that have a small generator (with day tank) and a small modular non-heated building(4mx4mx4m) both have their own concrete foundation that sits on frost heave insulation. My contractor wants to run a number of 100 diameter electrical conduits through the...
Thanks for the responses Jayrod and dik.
In the end I have got the other discipline to agree to a concrete pad that will be close to the main building and sit above the insulation. No insulation penetrations required. So I will just extend the insulation a little more at that side of the...
Hi All,
I have approximately 25 heavy industry sites with frost depths varying from 450mm to 3m. For the sites with high frost depth we are using a raft foundation (to support pre-engineered single storey buildings) approximately a meter below grade and then have frost insulation that runs...
We have had vertical inline pumps (not sure if this is what you have)which vendors didnt want to be rigidly fixed to the foundation. Some vertical pumps are expected to float therefore pump base plate slides on the pedestal embed plate. We made sure foundstion was 1.5 to 2 times the mass and...
Personally i would just call a sika rep and see what they say, they likely have a detail for it. Typically grouts i have used have a 1" minimim thickness requirement, however i dont see that limitation for the grout you listed.
Maybe just account for friction due to thermal or differential movement of rack / building versus equipment:
If you use 10% this would tie in nicely with human909's suggestion. As for nominal loads, Canadian code specifies 0.5% which is tiny for this type of structure.
My first question would be a heavy industry building or a light industrial building? If heavy industry im surprised your using unistrut. I do see some crazy stuff done with unistrut and wonder if they have any slenderness requirements.
Check with your mechanical engineer
Are there any guides or...
Have a chat with a hilti rep, maybe you could use something like hit-hy 200 hybrid for masonry to transfer the shear forces. Make sure you dont go through bond beam reinforcing, injecting upside down could be fun.
A neuclear option might be to break masonary and grout from bond beam...
There are some cool windvortex shedding videos out there, i would second getting a video of the rattling from the client.

I am assuming this section of wall is above grade. Then you would run the column from grade elevation to flr above. For wind the lateral forces are spread to diaphragms above and below. The vertical loads would then bear onto your basement wall below. I have no experience with basement walls...
I haven't alot of masonry experience so you can take what i say with a pinch of salt.
I am assuming no seismic as this is unreinforced masonry. I would be concerned about how those piers between the window and doors would handle the wind load. Essentially all wind on doors and 50% on the...
Big rotating equipment is usually isolated from the floor slab. If the equipment is heavy, the foundation maybe significantly bigger and you are only seeing the top of pedestal. Lighter stuff can be built into slab.
Construction sequence can also be a reason. Typically we get equipment layout...
I havent worked on this type of pump, however i have worked on lots of horizontal and the odd vertical pump.
Any way to get the vendor to provide the anchor loading? Typically we would include this requirement at purchasing stage.
As for nozzle load combinations, do you have a pipe stress...
I would locate the pipe first.
If it is 12" below and compacted gravel is put on it. I feel like you have created a rigid point under your foundation, although i could be wrong. Everything else will settle and full pressure goes to the pipe. If it were 12" below i might sleeve it, if it was...
