    Cranked concrete beam

Are there any columns along that line? Or only along gridline 5?

    ETABS Modelling help

From what I've heard the issue might be from overlapping null shells with two shell types. Try splitting the null shells at the slab boundaries.

Building height for dynamic analysis period (shear calibration)

JoshPlumSE, 1) No soil modeled when modeling the entire structure. I planned to include this effect in the below-grade analysis model. 2) Yes I completely agree. However if I assume the base of the structure is below grade (to increase the period) is it fair to say the below-grade elements...

Building height for dynamic analysis period (shear calibration)

HTURKAK, when doing a two-stage analysis, the period used for the upper structure is based on a model of the above-grade structure only? Or is the below grade portion included in the period computation, but then analyzed in a separate model?

Building height for dynamic analysis period (shear calibration)

Hey, When doing a dynamic analysis of a building, do you include the basement levels of the structure when comparing the equivalent static period to the dynamic model's period? To clarify, in the attached image, hn would be used for the equivalent static fundamental period. When running the...

Stiffness/moment distribution at exterior columns in flat plate slabs

Hi all, I have looked at a few previous threads treating this issue but I haven't found the answers to be complete. (Thread 267114, Thread 339047) I model my 2-way slabs using SPSlab, and have always pinned my edge columns (i.e. 0% stiffness). It was how I was tought to model the slabs and the...

Embedded Conduits in Shear Walls and Columns

@slickdeals they are considered to replace concrete in compression if they are in steel and 2" in diameter (6.3.6.2). How are they accounted for otherwise?

Embedded Conduits in Shear Walls and Columns

@SlideRuleEra & @HotRod10, my concern was primarily in the shear resistance of the wall. How do the conduits affect the contribution of the concrete? Would removing the diameters of the conduits from the shear depth be a realistic approximation? Does the concrete between the conduits fully...

Embedded Conduits in Shear Walls and Columns

16" thick. Yes I would recommend 4" spacing minimum.

Embedded Conduits in Shear Walls and Columns

Hi all, Do any of you have experience with embedded conduits (electrical, 2" or 3" in diameter) in concrete shear walls or columns? The contractor insists he has always built this way but I have never seen such installations. It's also not the first time I've heard of it. Does anyone have a...
