For a fillet weld PQR coupon welding, fusion tack welds are used on the PQR.
Can fusion tacks show on the WPS? Is a separate fusion weld PQR required in order to have fusion tacks on the WPS?
What is the ASME IX code interpretation on this?
Thanks in advance!
For GTAW machine welding, if root pass uses fusion welding without filler and fill pass with filler, per QW-404.14, since deletion or addition of filler metal is essential variable, should this procedure be classified as weld with filler? can we put wire feed speed 0 in the WPS or PQR?
Thanks DD for the reply.
The overlay is for structual reinforcement and is structural weld overlay. Should not be classified as corrosion resistant overlay, hardfacing overlay or cladding per Section Ix Qualification.
Can we conclude that ASME IX does not cover this for WPQ?
Metengr:
Thanks for the response. for the mentioned full structural weld overlay repair, per Section Ix for procedure and operator qualification, I am planning:
1. PQR on groove weld per QW-202.3
2. prepare WPS for overlay application
3. Qualify welding operator on overlay weld (not groove weld)...
For full structural weld overlay repair, the welding procedure is qualified per ASME IX QW-202.3. Should welding operator qualification be on groove joint design or overlay joint prep?
Consumable insert is used for GTAW root pass, and SMAW for the fill pass. In the PQR, if the deposited weld metal thickness for the root pass is t, will the Max deposit thickness be 2t on the WPS for the GTAW process (without filler wire)? Please advise.
For machine welding operator qualification test on hard facing, does it have to be with the hard facing procedure per QW-453?
Are operators qualified from groove weld procedure (since P and F number are not essential variables for machine welding) qualified for hard facing?
Thanks for the...
For a hard-facing PQR on 1 inch thick coupon, per construction code, 1 hour is required for PWHT holding time for the 1 inch thick base material. If per QW-407.6, production component is 4 inch thick, should the PWHT for the PQR Coupon be done in 4 hours (1 hr/inch) for compliance with the...
Metengr:
Thank you so much for your valuable input.
The other question I have:
If no butter layer is used, use original base material filler to restore to original size, then hard facing with Satellite 21, with two PQRs as discussed above (one is groove, the other is hard facing...
Looking at previous post from Metengr for the qualification of hard facing overlay with buttering layer, Two PQRs are required. Some questions for these two PQRs:
1. For the buttering layer (Nickel based filler) to base material (alloy steel) PQR, should this be done on groove weld with alloy...
Thanks Metengr and DD's reply.
Actually my confusion is from QW-423.2. The base material for WPS is 25Cr-35Ni (HP mod), which is not ASME material and no P number per Section IX.
In the welder qualification record, can I put P number 45 on the WPQ, qualification range to "P1 Thru P15F, P34...
WPS used for welder qualification has unassigned based material, what is the based material (25Cr-35Ni) qualified range for this welder? is it just for this unassigned base material?
Thanks for the help.
can RT be used for multi welder (manual TIG) welded coupon for performance qualification test? Or bend test has to be used per ASME IX? In order to get deposit t for each welder, do you need to have that from bend test or just record during the coupon testing? It is not too clear from Section...
For PQR coupon welded with manual GTAW Root pass + machine GTAW balancing, can the WPS be written to include both manual and machine GTAW process? it means that the WPS can be used for both manual and machine GTAW welding for the full thickness qualified from the PQR coupon.
Thanks for the help.
For super duplex with impact test, and qualification code is in accordance with IX and B31.3, should the qualified wall thickness range follow SECTION IX or B31.3.
Since the charpy test (at -46°c) is not as required by ASME B31.3, my interpretation is that WPS qualified wall thickness range...
