Dear all,
I’m looking to find plates bending stress
as shown in the picture attached.
How to find bending stress at the Centre of the plate considering the rectangular slot as shown?
Plate MYS = 36000 psi
Thanks...
Thanks all..
The aim to lift a 7.55 ton load using the lift plate (with pad eye) as shown in the pic below.
Following are the stresses that i am able to calculate,
1) double plane shear due to shackle pin at pad eye hole
2) bearing stress for the pad eye hole / pin interface
3) 8 X bolt...
Gents,
Thank you very much for the information and references.
Sorry, i haven't mentioned the weld profile correctly. Please find the actual weld profile image attached for reference.
The pad eye is welded at the top and bottom edges along the horizontal axis only.
Thanks,
Hanson
Dear All,
iam designing a lifting plate see attached picture. The pad eye is interfaced with plate at 45 degree and welded as shown.
I can calculate the double plane shear, bearing stress of the pad eye and the bending stress of the plate. But im not sure how to calculate the stresses acting...
Hello,
Please can someone tell me how to find the tensile strength or tensile rating in lbf of the connections below.
3-1/2" TUBING 12.95 PPF, TENARIS HYDRIL 533 connection
3-1/2" TUBING 15.8 PPF, NKEL connection
3-1/2" TUBING 12.7 PPF, JFE BEAR connection
Is it tensile strength in psi x...
Hi,
I’m working out the stresses induced by bolting for a non-api standard studded cross. I know the Radial and Longitudinal stresses can be transferred by the bolts, how about the tangential stresses? How to calculate this ?
Appreciate your advise.. thanks
Attached is a sample picture for...
Hi ,
I am using a shear pin for stem protection
at maximum torque. See picture attached.
How to calculate shear pin failure before stem failure?
Following are the inputs I have,
dia of shear pin,d = .625 in
dia of stem ,D = 1.5 in
Max Torque ,T = 3250 in.lbf
UTS of shear pin = 58000...
Hi,
I'm calculating the stress acting on an acme screw and thread (see image attached). The screw is rotated by means of the handle to raise under a load 25000lbf. I have calculated the torque required to raise this load which is 250 ft.lbf, and found the torsional shear stress of the screw...
Hi,
I’m looking to calculate the lifting capacity or stresses acting on a T-nut (inverted t beam) see attached pic.
The pull force acting on the T shown as P is 5000 lbf. The length and width of T nut is 2 inch. The T nut is fit in the slot and can slide across, Fx and Fy can act as fixed...
Hi,
I’m designing a gate valve with ball screw application with balance stem application.
I have calculated the total thrust force acting on the system. Now, whats would be the effect of dynamic load and static load on the total thrust?
I know dynamic load s the load beyond which the ball...

Guys,
I’m working on gate valve design with balancing stem.To calculate the force or thrust acting on the stem I used
thrust F = F1+F2+F3
F1 - axial force on gate due to inlet
pressure thru valve bore x coefficient of friction between gate/seat (or valve factor)
F2 - stem piston force
F3 -...
Hi,
I am using a ball screw to operate gate valve stem, wherein the ball screw nut remains stationary and can be rotated via handwheel. The stem moves up and down on handwheel rotation. Please find the picture attached. How to determine the maximum torque and other parameters to ensure the ball...
Hi,
I am looking to design a t-slot As shown in the attached. The stem with T part 2 fits in the Slot in part 1. Two opposite forces act as shown. How to calculate the stress on the part 1, the shear & bearing capacity? Please let me...
Sorry I don’t have the stress concentrations . I just want to know how to calculate the shear area that is, pi*d*t which shears
at the plane on dia d (single plane)
So, it’s not pi*[D-d]*t right?
Shear area calc.
Hi,
I have a doubt in calculating the shear area of a cylinder.
Please find the attached drawing.
As you can see from the dwg, I have to calculate the shear area for the component 1. The component 2 is fixed.
I used the shear area of punch formula which is Π X D X t or 2Πr x...
Thats right Morgan... my intention was to use the grayloc metal seals and i know well that these are pre-engineered components. But, the problem is i could'nt find a relevant document on the housing specification profile details for these seals (in specific Grayloc seal size 56).If you know...
