    Contour Modeling Question

Hello sorry for my late reply, buat I've been out of Office. Of course the Offset surface gives a constant depth groove measured against the original surface. But you can't mill this groove. And when it comes to production there will be a difference between the variational sweep and a milled...

    Contour Modeling Question

If you use a trimmed extrude to create the groove on a curved surface you'll end up with varied groove depth. You need to attend the surface normal vector. http://files.engineering.com/getfile.aspx?folder=fd8e17f8-9f58-40e9-9814-7f805f359c67&file=groove.zip

    Contour Modeling Question

A simple Extrusion will not work on curved surfaces. To get a more or less constant depth it must follow the surface normal. If the groove width could be double of the depth you could use the tube Feature, otherwise a variatonal sweep will do the job...

    Regarding Intersection Line

Hello look at the attached NX part file. The Datum axis is an endless assoziative intersection between the datum planes of the csys and Datum plane (1). As I described if you need real lines with a start and an end point you need more Input then just the intersection planes oder faces. I've...

    Regarding Intersection Line

Hello a line has a start point and an end point. Since planes are endless you need more input to create a line. But what you can create with full assoziavitiy is a reference line between two reference plane. And of course you can create an intersection point, see attached screenshot...

    Swept-Cut in NX11

The problem in your model is that the Rotation axis oft the tool did not intersect the path of the helix. And the fillet at the edges lead to boolean problems. http://files.engineering.com/getfile.aspx?folder=4a7de558-83ba-40ae-947f-506f25d9df82&file=sweep_volume.prt

Reducing the number of knot points in a curve

Hello depending on the tolerance you can create a point set on the existing curve and then use the fit curve command to create a new one. We use this method to smooth the profiles of turbine blades within a tolerance of 0.005mm.

    Variational Sweep doesn't follow curve

Hello you`ve constrained the start point ot the line to the CSYS point. If you constrain it to the intersection point which ist created at the intersection between the path curve and the sketch plane of the var sweep it will work as expected. best regards Meinolf

How to create this cam in NX8.5: Good challenge for NX expert

Hello, you'll missed the 360 degree as a factor, see attached example. Best Regards Meinolfhttp://files.engineering.com/getfile.aspx?folder=70de1187-86d3-4b9a-b603-12d45b78e140&file=cam_law_curve_md.prt
