hi Guys
we have had tensile reults for ASTM A148 GR130-115.
the parts were quench and tempered, but failed.
is there a recommended heat treatment for this please.
the results for .2% were 670, spec requires 795 and tesiles were 726, spec requires 895.
these were heat...
hi all
i having an issue with some carbon material which has been bought in as 26kg blends.
these are melted down in a 30kg inverted furnace and cast.
after cast sample analysis is taken, the carbon levels are way below the spec.
bought in charge Carbon = 0.020
cast sample analysis = 0.016...
further investigation was conducted at the lab on the test piece and sample "displayed an austenitic microstructure typical of 1.4849 steel".
i have tried another keel block sample and the results were not much better.
i have attached a copy of the micro examination...
hi Guys
i hope someone can help me out with an issue with material code 1.4849.
our customer has requested we cast test bars and have them tensile tested to meet the required spec:
Tensile :420 MPa
0.2% Yield:220
Elongation: 4%
the results that were received from the test house are:
Tensile...
thank you jaway809 & metengr
Our customer has since renewed his order and decided to go with a new material more relevant to newer BS standard.
thans to all :)
hi Guys
Can anyone help me out with a material grade.
a customer is enquiring a casting in GRADE BS1456 B2.
this is a new one on me..... does anyone have a CHEMICAL & MECHANICAL for this grade please?
cheers
hi Guys
can someone help me out with a casting spec please.
the material ASTM A494 M-35-1.
does anyone know the chemical and mechanical specifications for casting is?
cheers
hi guys
does anyone know the correct heat treatment for a carbon material BS3100 BW2?
At the moment we are carrying out 2 heat treatments
920 c 2 hours air cool then
620 c 4 hours furnace cool
the problem is that half of the cast batch is rejected at machining because the blades of the...
thanyou guys
a lot of the time even the customer is unsure of what specification they need, they just state the material and think we know all about it.
we,ll ask them about being supplied as cast.
cheers

hi Guys
thanks for your help with 1.4509 heat treatment.
we have a customer enquiry requesting a price for HK30 material castings.
but, again we do not know what heat treatment is required.
can anyone help please?
cheers

thankyou guys ... you all have been a great help.
we had a sample and bar heat treated externally @ 790c.
the results are 0.2 proof = 254
tensile = 549
elongation = 19
the only downside is the customer will not be placing an order due to pricing,
he,s...
our customer requires the following:
proof stress @ .2 = 200 - 250
tensile - 430 - 630
elongation - 18 min
we have no idea as what kind of heat treatment is needed to obtain these results.
any ideas will be greatly appreciated.

you have given me alot to think about.
i will follow up with the way the castings are weld repaired, see how they look after pickling which is carried out offsite.
As for minimizing the occurrence of surface defects, that's another issue altogether, most castings need touching up a little...
we have a standard - MSS SP-55 where the casting has to pass a visual inspection before it is passed onto the customer.
so we weld up any defects to smooth up the surface area , which will be machined out by the customer.
but this issue is has only started a few months ago , no process changes...
HI GUYS
WE ARE HAVING SOME ISSUES WITH OUR 316/CF8M CASTINGS.
AFTER THE PICKLING AND PASSIVATING PROCESS HAS TAKEN PLACE,
THE AREAS WHERE THEY HAVE BEEN COSMETICALLY WELDED, THE WELD MARKS SHOW UP AS BLACK PATCHES AND ARE MORE PROMINENT THAN BEFORE THEY WERE
TREATED.
THIS PROBLEM AT THE...
