Hi all,
Trying to chase down design calculations for stress in a 'band' joining two pipe lengths together.
Stress in the weld.
Stress in the pipe (because its going to be in torsion as the load tries to pull the welds into the pipe)
The pipes are butted up to each other. The band is lap...
Thanks Greg
Adams - I was leaning in that direction.
Looks like it integrates well with CFD.
Already a user of mech sim, ansys and space gass.
Might have to get this one under my belt too.
Hello all -
Can anyone recommend software for the following -
Custom articulated vehicles
Suspension design parameters
Rollover (SRT/stability) design
Solid or liquid cargo

Cheers - mega thanks. Got a wishlist or something similar I can buy something for you, wine, spirits etc? :D
Test result on the disk came out the same. Had load cells in spokes to see if the approximation would meet the calculation. Came out real nice, (very close) and I got a pat...

I must admit I do not have extensive knowledge in this area....
i propose you seek out some sources on belt conveyor re belt pulley design for deeper insight....

A lot of posts, ifs, ahhhhs and opinions but no posts that seem to be able to point to an equation and go 'heres the equation'.
Theres the good ole 2T/Dd
Throwing some figures at it
(2 x 10,000) / (0.5x0.006) = 6.67 MPa
as a udl on say 135 deg angle of wrap and a 6mm rope squash width
F = PA =...

The bigger the hole the weaker the pole. Reference? Codes/books?
Boss is made from same material.
Boss is welded in place and protrudes.
The hole is 30mm D the pole is 48mm OD

Hi all,
I'm currently designing a heavy duty pole. The pole has to have a pin in it and I've been asked to detail a boss for the hole/pin that goes through it.
Does anyone have any pointers or could put me in the direction of a text book that works out how to select the correct boss size...

I do a bit of FEA work and if you have a couple of cases where you already know the experimental results and want to see if simulation agrees with them let me know.
Keep the experimental results under your hat, I love seeing how close I can get without knowing the answer.
Can anyone recommend pipe and pump software.
Currently when I model systems for water and slurry I use the company excel templates to add up all the friction losses and it spits out a head loss then I size the pump but this is not good enough for large complex systems.
I'm looking for...
Hi Everyone,
Just a quick one - can anyone recommend guides or standards on crash protection requirements or design requirements. International or Australian.
I've design a repair platform for tunnel work and the client has requested a 'crash bar' to be added that will stop the basket from...
Hi all,
Can anyone direct me in the direction of a good, open source, robot arm kit.
I'm trying to put a robot in a box/dome. The box/dome has holes in it. I want to robot to spot the holes or at least get pointed in the general direction of the holes then reach out and and plug them. Or...
As the subject says, I'm looking for a device which can measure the impact force for me of a load that is connected to a chain that falls.
I've seen a few out there and was wondering which one you guys recommend. The load will be in the rance of 5-20 tons.
I've been coming across impact...
Its a crane bearing pad made from plastic.
Obviously steel standards don't work and there are not many plastic design standards especially for fatigue. Or for design.
So the other option I'm working on is experimental. Build a prototype and just see how long it lasts. If theres a standard...
Hi all,
Does anyone know if theres a standard or Australian standard relating to the approval of something if you build it experimentally.
I remember it had something to do with the number of units you produce which determined the factors you apply.
I cant for the life of me remember where I...
Hi all,
I'm looking into upgrading a design to carbon fibre or fibre glass from the ones we have that are currently made from steel. Its a simple inspection hatch and associated access parts. a couple of rungs. some tread plates.
Where would I be able to find information on how to design with...
Excellent, Thanks Dhengr, this was exactly the path it looks like I'm going down. The bedding down was less than the manufactures limits in their guides but I'm trying to contact their engineers now. Just to be safe.
