Shoud we apply this is from ACI 318 in ETABS

thanks This from ACI 318-19 R6.6.3.1.1, so i think we should apply it when we design according to ACI318-19 unless at another section it allowed us to ignore this section.

Can we Drift limit and stability index only by RSA?

Thanks Josh Agree with you, i always do both , which usually i need ELF for scaling my RSA and finding size of my structural elements. however for final limit check and design my building not permitted for ELF method according to the table below. So i i think checking limit only with RSA should...

Shoud we apply this is from ACI 318 in ETABS

Hi As i see rarely someone check wither the shear wall is cracked or not then apply stiffness modification accordingly for the shear wall, as you know we should apply F22=0.35 for cracked wall and F22=0.7 for uncracked wall (default axes orientation)? we check this by creating a model and...

Can we Drift limit and stability index only by RSA?

JpshPulm Thanks As you know some buildings doesn't permitted to be analyzing by Equivalent lateral force method, that is why the only two methods for linear analyzing are Modal Response Spectrum analysis and Linear Response History Analysis , I prefer to check drift limit, stability index and...

Can we Drift limit and stability index only by RSA?

Hi Is it enough to check drift limit, stability index only by RSA or we need to check those for Equivalent lateral force too, when both method permitted in table 12.6-1 for analyzing the building? what about when only RSA method permitted for analyzing the building (ELF not permiited) do we...

Risk Category for a 30 story residential building

thanks marinaman If it is me, i would count a 10 person occupant load to be the risk category III,however ASCE code definitely after consider lots of things they come up with those conditions for each Risk Category. As long as engineer follow the code i believe we should get acceptable result in...

Risk Category for a 30 story residential building

Thanks Aesur no it just a 30 story residential building, only at ground level there is some multi propose shops, with 4 basements of parking garage there is only a small area for shower and sauna, there is no assembly rooms, movie theater, pool area or any occupancy greater than 300 occupant...

Risk Category for a 30 story residential building

Hi In IBC 2018 for this kind of building i only find that if its occupant load >5000 it will be Risk category III otherwise it will be Risk category II, am i right? Occupant load of this building is around 2000 should i choose Risk Category II for this building Base04 – Base01 (Storage...

Allowable gross bearing capacity for checking pressure under mat foundation of 35 stories building!

THanks @MTNClimber this is the SPT test for the site and the reoomended Allowable net bearing capacity The allowable net soil bearing pressure for the Raft foundation with enough rigidity laid on the compacted layer at depth of (7.5 – 8.5) m below NGL (in case of double basement)...

Allowable gross bearing capacity for checking pressure under mat foundation of 35 stories building!

thanks @GeoEnvGuy what if the allowable net bearing capacity driven from the SPT test. (i.e the allowable bearing capacity govern by settlement not soil shear failure (meyhrof.terzagi..etc equations) ), can we increase our net allowable bearing capacity by adding overburden pressure to it (ϒ *...

Allowable gross bearing capacity for checking pressure under mat foundation of 35 stories building!

thanks @AaronMcD i'm more concern about the pressure under the mat foundation due to the gravity or/and lateral load such as seismic, wind rather than overturning moment due to the lateral load.

Allowable gross bearing capacity for checking pressure under mat foundation of 35 stories building!

thanks @Agent666 this just the structure designer decision without returning to the geo-technical. however there is two points first, As I remember from barja Das. Q Net ultimate = Q gross ultimate - q (over burden pressure (ϒ df)) so Q net allowable = (Q gross ultimate - q ) /F.O.S(3) Q net...

Allowable gross bearing capacity for checking pressure under mat foundation of 35 stories building!

Hi In soil report we only get the Net allowable bearing capacity and we use that Net allowable bearing capacity which is usually around 200 kN/m2 at depth of 7-9m (soil type is very stiff to hard light brown to grayish brown fat silty CLAY), which is larger enough for building around 12 stories...
