Hello All!
Does anyone have an experience of welding Bronze c83600 welding to carbon steel.
Design code is B31.3 and welding code is ASME Sec IX.
I don't see any articles online. Any input on welding process, filler wire, preheat, Interpass, shielding gas will be greatly appreciated.
Thanks!
EdStainless - Thanks for the info but I have seen certain customer specifications where they are not allowing more than 2% Nitrogen. Have you guys seen such restrictions?
Just an update we have welded a coupon with 98 Argon - 2 Nitrogen and I am waiting on the results now.
Hello All,
Hope all are healthy and safe!
I had a question related to the corrosion test and ferrite test.
Construction Code – ASME B31.3.
We did a Duplex PQR and it needed to be:
1) Corrosion tested per ASTM A923 Method C. (Temperature - 25 C. Time - 24 hours)
2) Ferrite point count method...
Construction Code - ASME B31.8
Material - API 5L X52 and API 5L X60
MDMT - Minus 20 F
Wall thickness - 3/8"
While preparing WPS, is there any thickness limitation for the base metals as it is for B31.3 (t/2 to t+1/4"). I didn't see it though in the code or is the Sec IX the governing code?
Regards,
Code - ASME Sec IX. Material on PQR - 347H SS (1.338" Thick)
I have a PQR with the following heat treatment cycle.
One single cycle, AMB to 1000°F (@400°F/hr) hold 1.8 hrs , 1000-2025°F (400°F/hr), hold 3hrs, cool @ 200°F/hr to 1650°F hold for 5.5 hrs - cooled in still air.
Can I use the above...
Hello All,
Code - ASME Sec IX
If I have a supplementary PQR with impact testing only, then does it need to have the same Heat Input as that of the original PQR?
Regards,
Good Morning All,
Is QW-407.2 applicable to base materials of the production welds too or is it just applicable to the Weld Metal and HAZ. If it is applicable to the base materials, where is it mentioned in ASME Sec IX?
Regards,
HMN
Hello All,
What TIG welding wire should be used for the above combination of the base material. API 582 does not have above combination. Can someone help on this one?
Regards,
Himanshu Naik
The customer spec says to use the same filler wire on WPS as on PQR and I was thinking of saving a PQR.
I would have to weld 2 different PQRs now just to match the filler wire same as the PQR. Needed to know the technical aspect from the chemistry point of view.
Thanks for the help Weldstan...
Hello All,
With reference to the subject, can I do that?
The only issue I see with ER347 wire is the Ni is on a lower side 9-11 compared to 10-14(316/316L) and 11-15(317/317L)and also on Moly. I couldn't find anywhere it asks to use or restricts to use. No impact required on job. Per sec IX, I...
- Metengr - 1/2" thickness and yes we intend to do PWHT
- Weldstan - I agree. I plan to go with ER100S-G
- Dhurjati - You cannot use ER70S-2 since the tensile strength is less than that of the base material. X65 has a tensile strength of 78 Ksi.
Thanks and Regards,
HMN
Hello All,
Design Code - ASME B31.3
I have a dissimilar weld between API 5L X65 and A519 TP 4130 material coming in one of our jobs.
X65 has chemistry of 0.08 - 0.2% C, 0.15 - 0.4% Si, 1 - 1.35% Mn, 0.4% Ni, 0.3% Cr, 0.15%Mo
4130 has chemistry of 0.28 - 0.33% C, 0.15 - 0.35% Si, 0.4...
All,
Weld joint between elbow to pipe (8" Sch 40S).
Material - 316/316L
Filler Metal used - ER316/316L
One half of the weld was welded during the night shift and the other half was supposed to be started today morning. But when the welder started welding on that, he said it welded like Aluminum...
Metengr - I reckon the interpretation answers my question but the word 'Welding Operator' is missing in that interpretation? Lol
David339933 - I know it's the same when it comes to GMAW(Pulse, Spray and Globular) and FCAW for Performance qualification of welders. I just wanted to see where is...
