ductily - is this a word?

Ron: I'm well aware of the word ductility. And I've done my fare share of ductility calculations. But while working in a design office for years, I've heard the question, is ductily a word more often then I'd care to count. So I was just posing the question on the forum to see what people...

ductily - is this a word?

Hi all, I have an easy question that I'm sure most of you have an opinion on. Is ductily a word? Can a beam fail ductily? Or does a beam fail in a ductile manner?

    LS-DYNA MAT_108 Help

Hey, so the problem was solved (unfortunately not by me). The issue was that I was using LS-PrePost v2.4 and I guess we needed to use v3.0. One of the cards (card 5 and/or 6) was not being defined correctly. Essentially, it was a user input error. However, I still stand by my rant regarding...

    LS-DYNA MAT_108 Help

It's appalling that FEA errors are so poorly documented and difficult to understand. I can understand working with a program for a while, getting to understand it, etc. But when a program that costs thousands of dollars outputs text files of gibberish that I have to struggle to decipher...

    LS-DYNA MAT_108 Help

Thanks for your quick response. Unfortunately, I pretty sure this is not the problem. I created the Material with a unique ID and I assigned the material to the model using the *Part keyword. I've also run the entire model using MAT_001-elastic and it runs fine so I'm convinced that the...

    LS-DYNA MAT_108 Help

Hi all, First off, I am new to LS-DYNA so any suggestions as to where to look for help are greatly appreciated. Here's my question. I want to use the material MAT_108 (*MAT_ORTHO_ELASTIC_PLASTIC) for a 2D shell model (a heavily loaded precast wall). I put in all the parameters but, I just...

    time history - gravity load

I have figure out the solution to my problem. I needed to use Ritz Vectors as opposed to Eigenvectors. Can anyone easily and clearly explain why? I understand that complex models may need this distinction but my model was very simple (one beam simple). If I figure it out, I'll let you know.

    Superdead ??? Reduced Live Loads

I'm not a pro but I think I can take a stab at answering your question. Superimposed dead load is different from dead load in that it is not attached to the building, it is not structural dead load. DL would be the beam and column weights and the architectural facade weight and SDL would be...

    time history - gravity load

Hi all, I want to preload my structure with a gravity load before applying a lateral earthquake load. I'm using a ramp function and applying the dead static load case. When I look at the time history results, I do not see any effect of vertical load (but I do see horizontal if I put a lateral...
