40 storey tower footing on PCC backfilled excavation.

Thanks everyone for their valuable input. Good to see people with different disciplines sharing their point of view.

40 storey tower footing on PCC backfilled excavation.

@LittleInch The contractor will use 10MPa concrete as PCC which has compressive strength of 10000 kN/m2 compared to rock BC of 2000 kN/m2. I was bit skeptical in taking these two variables same and the behavior of soil as compared to concrete.

40 storey tower footing on PCC backfilled excavation.

@SideRuleEra Actually the building was already design with proposed footings keeping in view rocks BC. But since contractor did over excavation which is being replaced by lump of PCC that’s why I asked if same configuration of footings can be used or not for PCC back filled area.

40 storey tower footing on PCC backfilled excavation.

Yeah, I know it's unusual, but the site was handed over to us like that. It is not everywhere like that but at places it is 1m to 3m and sometimes goes up to 10m. So can you suggest how to go about filling the area with proposed methodology.

40 storey tower footing on PCC backfilled excavation.

Hi everyone, I have encountered problem which falls between structural and geotechnical discipline. The contractor has over excavated the site with rock material having BC of 2000 kN/m2 up to 10m. Now he wants to elevate the site to reach the required level with mass concrete. He made two...

Lap splicing of rebars with different orientation

Thanks KootK for your insight. I was of the same opinion that as long as not contact splice requirements are fulfilled, stresses would be transferred from rebar to concrete. Any additional measure will warrant more safety.

Lap splicing of rebars with different orientation

Hi everyone, I need opinion about lap splicing of rebars which have different orientation (one being diagonal and other at orthogonal axis). The tower crane foundation was casted before which has rebars at orthogonal axes. Later raft foundation rebars were tied which were diagonal as per the...

    Decorative glass in steel frame.

Anyone with any other suggestion/ideas for the stability of the glass.

    Decorative glass in steel frame.

Valid points raised, I must say. Though the analysis has been done using SAP2000 for the gravity and lateral loads, my concern is that the glass is just fitted in the 40mm frame with 5mm silicon placed between glass and frame. the remaining 35mm bearing from all sides would be good enough for...

    Decorative glass in steel frame.

Hi everyone, I am newbie in this forum and want opinion of expert guys here. I have one decorative glass 3.6m high and 2.6m wide with silicone joint at 1.3m fitted in a U shaped SS frame having web depth of 40mm and 15mm flange width at basement level of building. The contractor says that since...
