Thank you for your response TSG4. I can’t use elastic-plastic analysis method due to software license limitations. At this moment I can only model linear elastic materials.
In buliding a model of a reinforced nozzle with shell elements, what is the best approach? I'm thinking in two options:
MODEL 1 (Red color): Two separated shells with a bonded contact between them.
MODEL 2 (Blue color): One shell with the combined thickness.
Thank you very much.
Thank you for your answer DriveMeNuts.
That's exactly what I explained to the AI, but he insisted that comparing the von Mises equivalent stress against the ASME VIII, Div. 1 allowables would be as "mixing apples and oranges".
I agree with your point that I could use Tresca in order to comply...
Thank you very much TSG4.
And do you know why using the maximum principal stress has been rejected by the Code Commitee? Could it lead to non-conservative results?
I am performing an FEA to qualify a nozzle subject to external loads for an ASME VIII, Div. 1 vessel. I am using NozzlePRO, which follows the rules of ASME VIII, Div. 2, Part 5, using the allowables for a Division 1 construction (Table 1 and Table 1A from Section II, Part D).
The problem is...
Hello all,
I need to calculate the wear plate to vessel fillet weld size of an horizontal pressure vessel.
Loads include vessel weight, seismic load and wind load. Any reference on this topic?
Thanks.
georgeverghese,
Do you think it would be conservative to calculate the inside htc based on 100% oil?
I read in some places that the viscosity of the oil/water mixture has a greater value than that of its separate components. Have you heard about this?
Thanks for your response.
Hello all,
I am designing a steam bath firetube heater for heating up a crude oil/water mixture from 30 to 60°C. Crude oil flow rate is 1 m3/h and water flow rate is 9 m3/h.
In order to calculate the heat transfer coefficient in the process side of the coil, I need to know the viscosity of the...
Hello all,
I am trying to calculate the inside heat transfer coefficient for a 4 in diameter pipe transporting an crude oil/water mixture.
The crude oil is API 20° and two mixtures are to be analyzed, one for a 50% water cut and the other for a 70% water cut.
I don't know how to determine the...
Hi people, I'm having troubles in modelling a lifting lug that is placed on a 2:1 elliptical head (see attached image). My questiona are:
Is it possible to model this geometry in Compress?
What does ASME Code say about this?
Is there some way to calculate stresses by hand for this case without...
Is it possible to design a leg-supported atmospheric storage tank as per ASME VIII Div. 1? I was thinking in API 650 but it states "This Standard applies only to tanks whose entire bottom is uniformly supported..." which is not my case. Which other International Standard could I use?
Thanks!
Thanks for your answer Afox!
I will consider using another kind of head.
In any case, does Compress provide a tool for modelling conical heads? Because a transition with small end diameter = 0 is not an option.
