    Removing X-Bracing for New Doorway

Hello! I'm looking for some conceptual ideas about removing existing steel cross bracing in a steel-framed 2-story space. The bracing was buried in an existing wall that the architect wants to put a new door through (of course - the door absolutely has to go in that location). Obviously, we'll...

Pressure of a Fluid and Gas in a Closed Vessel

Hello, I am trying to figure out if a fluid and a gas in the same closed vessel have the same pressure. Specifically, I have a water pipeline that I want to attach a pressure monitor to. The thought is to attach the monitor at an air release valve but we're wondering about whether any air...

    Air Flow Through a Wye

Thank you so much for your responses! We are using these blowers (I'm not sure how else to refer to them....basically they are big fans) to blow the air outside a pipeline (just open air) into a pipeline so that we will have breathable air in the pipe. As far as I know, we should be blowing air...

    Air Flow Through a Wye

Hello, A coworker asked me today if we could determine the flow of air through a pipeline when the air coming into the pipe is 15000 cfm. I told him that Q = V*A, flow rate does not change regardless of diameter, and that we could easily calculate this value. The more I think about it though...

    Min thickness for a weld?

Is there a minimum base material thickness for a CJP groove weld? (or really for any weld?) Basically, I am trying to determine whether two pipe sections can be welded together if one of them has 16 gauge steel....

    Butt Welds vs Groove Welds

Hello, I need to go through the design process for a butt weld, but the AISC manual does not have a specification for it. From pictures, butt welds and groove welds (which are in the AISC manual) look like the same thing. Does anyone know if they are? Thanks!
