it is always safe to use the current code which is the easiest. but no. it does NOT tell the edition of IBC.
the reason I am asking is that when you do repair under certain circumstances it allows you to use the wind load of the original design say wind load from 1973. the wind load after ASCE...

The cited code article CLEARLY does not tell which editions to use which makes it not quite CLEAR. Also if the original wind load is from ASCE 7-05 or earlier edition there might be problems using current AISC or ACI to do code check.
Thanks for not helping.
I copied section 405.2.3.1 for evaluation from IEBC as below
"405.2.3.1 Evaluation. The building shall be evaluated by a registered design professional, and the evaluation
findings shall be submitted to the code official. The evaluation shall establish whether the damaged building, if...

I am going to do a vertical pump foundation by a reservoir. This is my first time. Anyone can provide a set of goby drawing for me or direct me to some kind of website? Thanks a lot
Thanks. But milkshakelake Could you please be more specific? what do you mean by small or large. does it have something to do with the number of connections or number of drawings? a 8 story with the same floor plan would double the amount of connections of 4 stories. the cost is not...
Hi everyone
How much do we charge for steel shop drawings? the engineer only does the connection design. basically I want to know how we figure out how much the engineer who does the shop drawing should get paid. Thanks
thanks IRstuff. I know there is exemption. still the question is even i dont need to seal anything, if the employer does not follow my drawing say a drawing for a simple shed or anything. or if anything goes wrong the client might come to sue the employer or even the engineer. also i know a lot...
I am currently working for a shop that is not registered to provide engineering services to public. and I am the only PE in the shop. and the employer does not carry any E&O policies and refuses to purchase one for me. I am debating if I should let the shop hire my LLC or me personally. below is...
thanks AL
good thing is I only do a preliminary analysis to come up with a concept or opinions. someone else will do the final engineering which I'm not part of it.
thanks for all the good advises. PhamENG. Well they would not register with the board since they don't plan to provide engineering services. I talked with them about the insurance a while back when I thought it is an engineering firm which later on I found it is not. they told me all the...
thanks glass99. just called an agent and we will see what he comes up with. why LLC is not going to do anything? if the LLC is sued, it is the LLC who will pay whatever but not the engineer personally. of course I will try my best do keep all the good record and never breach any code requirement...
thanks phamENG. yes he did a while back. just want to hear how the engineers explain it. basically we need Professional liability. only General liability is not enough. Do you have recommendations? I mean a good policy and affordable. also my agent also explain to me that the policy covers...
sorry I am new here and didn't read every post. I have been shop around for a policy also for myself. I am structural. one of the agent told me there is different btw general liability for your business and error and omission policy. which one do you guys get? what is the difference exactly? thanks
thanks a lot. but still with this kind of arrangement keep a clean record of what I do is kind of challenging I feel because all the communications would be within the company's system sometimes it is just verbal. I don't find an indemnification form on the board's website. I will call to see if...
I guess I'm still not quite sure. A company that provides engineering services to public should register with the board in my state. First of all my employer is not an engineering company who doesn't provide and not allowed to provide engineering services. Therefore my employer name couldn't be...
