    Need the formula

Hello, I think/hope this is the right forum for this question. I need the formula to calculate: Time(minutes) to melt 1 pound steel (power in joules). Thank you

3DDave: "They learned it the old fashioned way - they did it themselves and not from books. What do you need to do that isn't available?" "They learned it the old fashioned way ..... not from books." ????????????????????? "What do you need to do that isn't available?" Sorry, that's a tangent...

3DDave: "I know there are some people who have made discrete component processors, but the clock speeds aren't very high so unless this is for a proof of ability demonstration or just the fun of it (see the forum "engineers with hobbies") I'm not sure why one would ignore the thousands of...

microstepping sequencer and microstepping indexer and microstepping translator\

hello, I am trying to teach myself about microstepping bipolar stepper motors. I have searched the internet, U.S.Patents, old circuit handbooks and found nothing but block diagram squares with a name in it. I want to design/build my own discrete logic, no specilized I.C.s, not software based...

    Help identifying circuit.

TO:Compositepro Is the resistor part of the symbol for the varistor or is it in parallel with the varister? do you know of any formulas or where I can find formulas to calculate the values needed? 100V and 200A. What about the reactor I have seen large and small ones in basicly the same...

    Help identifying circuit.

Thank you Skogsgurra. That helped a lot. I have a new bridge rectifier (fast recovery) so that will remove the need for the capacitors and the diac/varistor. The inductor I think is an inrush current limiter. Know of any good text or sites on designing inrush current limiter inductors?

    Help identifying circuit.

Ok, a little Clarification is needed. I do know the basics. I this circuit: Transformer. capacitors, diodes (in full wave bridge configuration) resistor, (diac (current symbol) OR varistor (old symbol) and inductor. I am not looking for the common names or common function. I need the...

    Help identifying circuit.

Thank You for the responses. No, it is not homework. No, it is not from a text book. It is from an owner's manual form the late 60's to early 70's. I am trying to restore the unit and need to understand what it is. OEM parts are not available and the parts are not marked. And as Skogsgurra...

    Help identifying circuit.

Hello, I need a little help. In reference to the circuit in the image below. Secondary is 100V, 200A. 1). The capacitor in parallel with the diode in the bridge rectifier. a). What is its functional name, how do I look it up on the web? b). What is its purpose? c). How do I calculate its...

    Help, Need formulas.

Hello, I need to build a toroidal transformer. I need the formula to calculate the wattage it will use. AND I need the formula to calculate the the size of the core to handle the wattage or (wattage X safety margin). Specs: continuous operation Primary: 30V to 500V Secondary: 32KV Energy: 50mJ...
