    Boilder Blowdown Piping Welding Certifications

A clark, B31.1 124.1 is for temperature limitations. I'm going off of the 2016 version. Are you suggesting we may be above the temperature limits? Our feedwater comes in at about 240F which I don't see it being am issue in our application. Pleas let me know if I misunderstood.

A clark, Thanks for bringing that up. That is really helpful, actually. We are in Arizona.

    Boilder Blowdown Piping Welding Certifications

Hey, there. I have a question regarding welder qualifications for blowdown piping of one of our boilers. We have two boilers feeding a common header and they produce saturated steam between 200-220PSIG. Each boiler's blowdown line is connected to a common header and go to a flash tank before...

Spiral wound gasket keeps unwinding shortly after startup

@Sntman: The gasket is in oval form. I'm not entirely sure if a gasket with an outer and inner ring is possible. And I'm not sure if that is what is being used. Every time they come to install them I'm tied up somewhere else. I'm waiting to hear back from the contractor what gasket type, brand...

Spiral wound gasket keeps unwinding shortly after startup

Hello. We have a 300PSIG MAWP - 20700lb/hr natural gas powered boiler. We have had three different spiral gaskets unwind shortly after startup. Two of them are installed by one tech and the third by different tech. The first one started leaking right off the bat where as the second one unwound...

Electric motor bearing fit damaged by overgreasing?

jgKRI: It was 89g/81g DE/ODE every 3 weeks. That makes sense but they just gave us a vague report. I believe they are just taking the easy way out. @JJPellin: The motor didn't fail due to the grease on the windings. If it failed because of that then I wouldn't have made this post.

Electric motor bearing fit damaged by overgreasing?

Hello! We have a 4160V, 500HP, 1200RPM 5000 frame electric motor used in vacuum pump application. It is belt driven. The motor took a crap after the DE bearing temperature shot over 300 degrees and the shaft seized up. We pulled the cap and saw the a substantial amount of grease on the...

Moment capacity of bolted connection to top flange

@mmarlow, The way it is set up is so that the motor or gearbox can be lowered on the right side. Are you saying that the support system is not laterals stable? I checked my flange bending and I'm all good there. haha yeah. Definitely thrown to the wolves. I was hired a year ago and for the...

Moment capacity of bolted connection to top flange

Ron247, I have attached a sketch of the whole assembly. The motor and gearbox assembly are not to scale. They are close though.https://files.engineering.com/getfile.aspx?folder=8726ab6f-55a1-4ffa-97d3-8223fd7a35e9&file=Monorail.PNG

Moment capacity of bolted connection to top flange

mmarlow, That is something that I considered but didn't quite grasp. I know the moment is internal to the monorail beam but I thought that if it happened at a support location that it would transfer it to the connection. And your sketch is correct. Thanks for your help!

Moment capacity of bolted connection to top flange

mmarlow, It is an upside down u-frame with columns and a beam. The motor has 1308lbs on the badge and the gearbox is about 900lbs. We label our monorails so I'm designing for 3/4 ton. It's manual driven so the chain fall and trolley shouldn't be more than 100lbs. Yes, there are two frames. I...

Moment capacity of bolted connection to top flange

Hello. I'm new the community and this is my first thread. So forgive me in advance for any mistakes I make. I am designing a double overhung monorail for an electric motor and gearbox. Only one overhang will ever be loaded. Due to the location of the motor and gearbox, I am limited to how the...
