If the welder took a test using P45 to P45 then he is qualified to weld P45 to P1 per QW423.1. But to make the weld a WPS (weld procedure specification) and PQR (procedure qualification record) for P45 to P1 must be
done. You have to have a WPS and a PQR for the 2 materials welded together...
We have been asked to quote on a project that involves building some small well house units with 2 small ASME pressure vessels (SEPARATORS) in them. We have been asked to quote just the vessels and to quote building the whole units. They will connect to the piping that is already in place. I...
The above ground units are part of a underground storage. Gas is stored underground until needed then pumped to a distribution site. I would say it is a fuel gas. Some of the questions i do not have answers to yet.
Thank you all for your help.
thanks for the reply's
i will have a look in International Fuel Gas Code.
this is above ground. the pipe sizes vary from small tubing to 4 inch. mostly A106-B. Pressure is around 1500psi to 2000psi. one of our customers will own the pipe units. No this not part of any power plants.

hello fellow members
i am wondering if there is a building and welding code for high pressure natural gas piping? This will be in the state of Illinois.
weldstan.... thats along the range i was thinking. These test plates are very expensive i just wanna make sure i am right.
david339933.... Appendix R only has the recommendation of 175 degrees for plate over 1".
Thank you all for the info
First off thank y'all for the responses
metenger... i must be missing something i have been looking in ASME VIII div.1 and XI and i have not found anything regarding preheat other than 50 degrees.
Hello All,
Where would be the best spots to research a recommended pre-heat and inner-pass temp for SA516-70 plate that is 8-1/4" thick.
Thanks in advance for and reference.

If the vessel tag is not stamped with the ASME certification mark. Your not supposed to use any reference to ASME. But i see ASME VIII Div. 1 stamped on lots of nameplates these days with out the vessel being code.
I think if you look in the foreword of the code book it might explain it. Just...

We are back stepping the welds and skipping around to minimize heat input.

We are unable to use brazing at this time due to not having a procedure and to little time to make one.
We have successfully completed the welding without distortion but only by switching to...

We manufacture ASME vessels and we only buy one copy of each. Just make sure that everyone that may need info out of them has access to them. And yes they are very expensive.
We always hydro with the glass installed. The glass should always be rated higher then 1.3 of the MAWP and temp. Although we have had a few people install the wrong glass and it didnt work to well. To me the glass should be sealed before shipping and how do you know that it is without doing...
Just an update
we have now removed the 20ga section and going with 10ga. This will help to minimize the distortion. Thank you all for your input.
tbuelna: if i may ask what is a joggled hole? The nozzle shown is a pad flange that is welded to the inner shell with a cone welded to the pad for...
The nozzles are thicker material. The picture shown is the lagging for the insulation. I have been trying to tell the client that you cant weld it without distortion but they have required it with none.
Friends
I am inquiring to see if anybody has some helpful ideas to weld the project that is in the picture without the distortion. We have been using GTAW for the welding but have been unsuccessful to do it without distorting the shell in between the nozzles. Thank you in advance...
