Does anyone know of any issues regarding using an orifice on a 1" pipe run for gas measurement? They want to weld on some 1" flanges on the 1" pipe and place an orifice between.
Please let me know your thoughts.
Thanks!
I am providing data sheets for downhole fiber optic temperature sensing. The electronics are connected at surface for light transmission and data collection. With RTD's an area classification is required e.g: Good for Class 1, Zone 2. But does a fiber optic cable need this?
I would think not...
merganzer82,
I agree with xnuke. I have been to many oil field construction jobs installing and commissioning. The distances run from transmitters to DCS/PLC systems are massive and have no ill affect on 4 to 20 mA signal transfer. You should be fine. Just remember not to run your 4 to 20...
I have been reading that a thermal mass flow meter does not require any pressure compensation for accurate flow measurement in fuel gas applications. Can anyone verify this?
Thank you.
Thanks for the input. This is fuel gas through a bubbler panel to measure down hole pressure. My process engineer stated we need pressure and temperature compensation since we are jamming this gas down hole. I procured a vortex meter with integral pressure and temperature elements that will...
Is it always necessary to have temperature and pressure compensation when measuring fuel gas flow? I can understand it for custody transfer and for any down hole injection or gas extraction from a well. But if it is for something basic like instrument fuel gas supply I am not sure.
Any...
waross: The pressure sensing element needs to be able to handle 300 degrees C plus temperatures. That is why they are tubed away from the process to cool down the process temp as there is not a sensing element that can handle such extreme heat.

Then you get those processes where the design pressure is 7800 kPa-g but the operating pressure is 700 kPa-g. You wouldn't install a gauge with a range of 0 to 10000 kPa-g to meet the design pressure as the gauge would be reading in the lower end of the first third (Not very accurate). In this...
Before all this government reporting came in they would use flow measurement on their flare stacks to determine if any of their PSV's were passing or other valves that led to the flare line.
roydm: M.A.R.P. Measurement Accounting and Reporting Plan. Each company is required to have these special meters to record and report any fluids being pulled out of the ground, put back into the ground, flared into the atmosphere and for custody transfer (AER Directive 17). Analyzers will be...
hacksaw, good idea but you are right in more problems. They don't need anymore maintenance problems then what they already have with the ammonium bicarbonate and are not willing to change the system or spend a ton for added features. We will just have to see how this present idea will work.
Truck it or train it. Of course this doesn't stop that mode of transport from skidding off the rails and blowing up all over the place. I find it funny how we even need to ship our resources through a pipeline to some other place so they can use it. It is all driven by money hungry mad men...
The client has differential pressure flow and pressure transmitters on a steam line that are plugging up with ammonium bicarbonate. The sensing lines are tubed to condensate pots then onto the transmitters. The condensate pots enable precipitation where the ammonia precipitates out of the gas...
