Unfortunately I don't have a clearer copy, but it is from The Ove Arup Structural Scheme Design Manual. You should be able to source a copy online https://www.scribd.com/doc/50817571/STRUCTURAL-SCHEME-DESIGN-GUIDE-BY-ARUP
Hello,
I have a 300mm thick flat slab (without drop panels) which is to contain a series of plastic pipes for cooling the floor. The pipes are 25mm diameter and are spaced at 100mm centers. They will be situated in the center of the slab (suspended from the top reinforcement I expect), so will...
Haven't read through all the replies so I'm assuming you have received the right advice by now, but attached is a useful guide for determining appropriate floor slab systems. It's my go to for scheme design.
Thanks for the responses.
civeng, I'm using a haunched UB1016x305x222 rafter, and UB1016x305x437 columns (British sections). It is a double span roof, i.e 120m wide with central columns. It seemed a more economical system than using a truss.
Hello,
I have a large span storage warehouse to design - 60m span, height to eaves is 9m. It is lightweight construction - sandwich panel sheeting on purlins with minimal services. The roof is only accessed for maintenance (0.6 Kn/m2 live load).
A colleague has suggested that checking the roof...
I have a 3 story concrete framed building with a two level basement to design. The building design meets all of the requirements of 1629.8 to enable a static analysis to be carried out, however in the basement B1 structure I have a stiffness irregularity as the floor structure is partly open i.e...
dik,
Information we have so far is that the soil consists of silty sand layers with coral deposits. The water table is understood to be +4m below ground.
The main processing building (single story, steel framed open warehouse type structure) is on isolated pad foundations with the ground slab...
Does anyone have any experience with this?
We have a client with a processing facility in the Middle East. A couple of the smaller ancillary buildings have experienced some significant settlement recently (> 100mm). The cause is not yet known and the original soil investigation report is...
Hello,
Does anyone know of a requirement within the AWS Structural Welding Code that states that all on-site welding should be tested?
We are requesting the contractor to carry out NDT's on a series of full strength butt welds that are being done on-site. He is trying to claim a variation for...
I have a 6m deep single level basement to design for a three story concrete framed building. basement footprint is 11,000 m2. The ground is sand, water table is at approx 4m.
The wall will be built on the plot boundary so no external excavation or ground tie backs will be possible. For the...
I cannot find the tata blue book for steel section capacities online anymore. There doesn't appear to be anything mentioned on Tata's website about it either. Does anyone know if it has been removed or not?
I have a free standing RC wall, the strip footing for which is 500mm thick. It is a boundary wall around a facility so resisting only wind loads or a vehicle impact load.
if I follow the code for minimum reinforcement in the foundation (0.35%) I need a lot more steel than is required for...
Clause 10629.4.2 states that "the value of Na used to determine Ca in seismic zone 4 need not exceed 1.1 for structures complying with the following conditions (1 to 3)"
If I don't know the seismic source type or the distance to the seismic source, can I use this figure of 1.1 for the Nv factor...
I have a manufacturing facility to design in Kabul and am having trouble trying to determine what basic wind speed to design the buildings for. US design codes are applicable and ASCE 7-10 for the loadings, which of course only covers wind speeds in the states.
Have searched online but no...
