Hello All
I was wondering if anyone had a source for empirical calculations of pipe wall thinning due to liquid droplet impingent erosion. Looking for a calculation to predict wear rate of carbon steel piping. I'm working from PVP2012-78443
Potentially Isomoto model?
Any input would be...
ASCE 7-16 states:
11.4.7 Risk-Targeted Maximum Considered Earthquake (MCER) Response Spectrum. Where an MCER response spectrum is required, it shall be determined by multiplying the design response spectrum by 1.5.
My Question:
Recognizing that the design response spectrum is 2/3 the MCER...
Thank you all for the feedback. Pictures helped a lot regarding the ability to construct it. I'm using 1/2" wall tubing and supporting light loads. I think design guide 9 is 24 for HSS members. Just wanted to make sure I could do a simple tab with out a through plate
Happy Thursday
Can anybody point to a good reference for the detailing/drawing of simple shear tab connections for beams framing into round HSS.
Thank you
Happy Friday
Looking at replacing the entire bottom of a 60' diameter tank. Given the foundation configuration and some other challenges, the recommended solution is to install a second bottom over the existing bottom as specified in API 653 9.10.2. Looking for a couple bench marks from...
Hi
I'm applying a non-uniform hydro-static load in Solidworks Simulation. I know how to create the load and can view it (arrows wise). Does anyone know if theres a way to view the applied pressure as a contour plot on the model, so you can confirm its been correctly applied?
Thanks
Jeff
@ HTURKAK thank you for the thread, I'm reviewing that thread and a few others
@ LittleInch: Still determining the code of record...Settlement survey is part of the scope. The tank is founded on a gravel ringwall that has had some of the outer apron removed, half-fixes and potential...
Has anyone repaired/rehabilitated an AST with a gravel foundation before? Without jacking?
The tank needs a new annular plates anyways so cutting open the floor for access is an option, just thinking about how to get good compaction up to the underside of the tank floor and tight to the shell...
Thank you Scott
I'm very familiar with weldments and library of Solidworks. I'm looking at these packages because Solidworks has real major shortcomings when working in structural applications.
The biggest thing these packages have is ability to
-auto-generate shop drawings for each...
Good afternoon.
I'm looking to add a structural drafting package to my Solidworks Licensee. Can anyone recommend what they're using. I'm running SW 2019. It seems like so many are either unresponsive or no longer supported.
I've found:

MJCronin and davefitz, thank you for passing along your knowledge.
MJCronin thank you again for the list of reference material. I'll be looking to add some to my bookshelf this week.
Maybe I got off on the wrong foot...I didn't realize that eng-tips forum posts were time sensitive. I had some other commitments this week that took priorities

So you will not tell us temperatures, pressures materials or massflow rates ?....all Top Secret...
Thanks, I've done alot with B31.1 high energy systems at saturated steam conditions at powerplants. This would be a process line with super critical steam. The client/consultant has already selected materials, I'd verify the stresses are within code allowable limits.
...loads. Value equals normal operating external pressure/design external pressure or a minimum of 0.4. Manufacturer to use 0.4 when not specified. (See 5.2.2.)"
Note: I think they mean that the value of Fpe*Pe shall be equal to the normal operating external pressure. Since Fpe is just a...
I'm evaluating an API-650 tank for external load, snow and external pressure.
The equations (V.7) are
DL + (Lr or S) + 0.4 Pe or DL + Pe + 0.4 (Lr or S)
My tank has a continuous 6" w.c. vacuum applied to it. When looking at the above loading conditions I'm replacing the 0.4 factor with 1.0...
Happy Friday Everyone
I have an intern starting in the office and am looking to teach him FEA. I'd like to teach him some basic FEA that correlates to real world structural analysis and design. I previously had an intern show the effects of bolt prying on wide flange shapes.
Anyway I'm...
