Cross-Grain Bending in wood members, Ledger

XR250, The h8 are at 16" on center and there is a note stating that the studs must align with the roof joist. Regarding the sheating along the back of the parapet (the right side of the stud, per the sketch), I don't quite follow your shear load pad. Lets say that your diaphragm's shear at...

Cross-Grain Bending in wood members, Ledger

PittEng88, I can do that, but my concern is attaching the parapet wall to the structure without using knee braces.

Cross-Grain Bending in wood members, Ledger

Hello, I am designing a wood structure that has a 3'-6" parapet. Im using a 2x ledger to support a top mounted hanger that ultimately suppors the joist. A 2x blocking is provided to transfer the diaphragm shear into the shearwall. Should I consider cross grain bending, I am not using bolts...

Discontinuous chords in wood framed building @ dormers

JAE, here is a sketch for the diaphragm. I see the ridge beam acting as a chord with the north to south loading. Im having difficulties when I reverse the load. It seems that half of the roof (dormer side) is cantilevered and just goes for a ride north. Regards.

Discontinuous chords in wood framed building @ dormers

Thank you Kootk, I will explore your second alternative. Thank you JAE, Im still trying to digest the idea of only using one side of the roof and ridge beam as a chord.

Discontinuous chords in wood framed building @ dormers

Hello, I am working on a new wood framed building. There are several dormers where the double top plate will have a discontinuity. Please see the attached sketch. Based on diaphragm design, the chord force is around 2.5 kips. My question is the following, how do I connect the plates at...
